Hello all I am so glad I found this site. I looked all over trying to find people with personal experience and suggestions. I'm so happy...Okay I just adopted Pablo a 6 year old blue fronted amazon. My friend has not been taking care of him as he should be due to new baby and husband. I have spent the past 3 hours with his cage apart scrubbing it. But it's better needs paint but at least clean. I had no idea what food/seed/amount to feed him and she left town so I am winging this. I have been around Pablo his whole life so he knows who I am. And he is talking and has even kissed my husband a few times. I know he has a screaming issue going on and well so do my kids lol...Question I should ask somewhere else but before I forget...I want to sever ties with Pablo's old owner my so called friend...She gave me his dna papers and she said that's all she has. How do I become his forever owner? I will repost in proper form. Thank you guys in advance for any suggestions. I welcome them all...:green:
 
Hi,

I'm new to this. I have a double yellow amazon that is about 3 years old. He stopped flying! He use to do it all the time but hasn't since mid Jan. He plays, eats, talks, but stopped flying. He eats plenty of fruits, vegs, meat, eggs etc. He doesn't like fat and seems to be happy. Any ideas what could be up with him. Could he be starting the "hormonal stage"

Like I said, i'm not sure where to start in this forum.
I have Birdy, who is the amazon, he plays with the 3 cats, Tonto (mostly), Sassy and Jessie. I also have 2 Great Pyreenes. Myself and husband.

Birdy has the whole house to fly around. Of course he is always in sight of us. When we go out we always but him in the cage with a treat.

Its just baffling to why he stopped flying. I thought he might have had a hard landing.

If anyone can steer me to the right directions, I will appreciate it. Thanks, Bobbi123

it’s great to see that there are so many people out there who love their birds so much and are willing to share their experiences and advice so freely. My name is Steve and I have recently acquired/rescued a youngish African grey from a pet shop in Saudi Arabia where I work. I have named him/her Zazu (from the lion king) and accommodated him in a large cage in the corner of my lounge room. I think that he has quite a fearful life so far and is very very timid - making a hell of a noise when you get too near the cage and freaks out when he sees your hands. He will calm down to a degree after about ten minutes but any further movement sets him off again - screaming and growling. I love him to bits and will do whatever is required to gain his trust - any suggestions, thanks.
 
Hi all I'm one of the newest members here. My name is Lorraine lorri for short and live in the east of UK :D I don't have a bird as yet nor a cage! I have choosen a cage for my little hand reared (male) cockatiel which I will be able to have him in a mouths time. I'm also getting prepared and finding out loads of info about cockatiels as I'm a bit rusty lin ooking after them. It's been a while since I have owned one. Once I have him and he has settled in to his new home I will post photos on him.
 
Hello! My name is Summer and I am happily married to Chris. We have a 5 month old daughter, 3 furry babies (Hutch- chocolate lab, Miles- Min Pin, and Dez- Border Collie Mix) and one feathered friend, Pauly D, the Lovebird. He was my valentine's present. (I'm just assuming he's a boy- he could be a girl, have not had him DNA tested) Anyways, I am pretty new to this whole bird thing but he's really great. We got him a large cage (could easily fit a mate in with him) and lots of toys and he loves his little cozy hut and perches and toys. He's about 8 months old, and was supposedly hand raised, but I dont think he's been handled very much. He's gotten used to our house and our crazy dogs, and he and my daughter sqwuak back and forth at each other all the time- its pretty cute. I have heard lovebirds do better in pairs, but I have also heard they will bond to their mate instead of to me- and I want to be able to take him (them, one day) out to play and sit on my hand and shoulder and play. I'm really excited about this forum because I feel like I have alot to learn, and look forward to tips and advice from experienced bird owners.

I am sure you know and understand how much pleasure this, little in size but gigantic in personality, companion gives us. I have joined this forum as more and more questions are coming to my mind as we interact with our friend. I guess i need to go to the dedicated section of this forum and read before posting an obvious question!

I just joined today and I have 2 cockatails, 3 parakeets, a dove and a Green cheeked Conure.
 
Hi there, I am new to this forum but have been the proud owner of a Timneh Grey for the past 15 years. A problem has been building over the past months that is causing stress on everyone in the house. She is making high pitched noises which cause the 10 year old Yorkie to go into a panic which in turn upsets my boyfriend and it just rolls downhill from there. Covering her is not working nor is it the answer. I have a few ideas I am going to try but am willing to take any advice. Thanks for any ideas you experts may have.

I am new to having birds but have had (and still do) many animals as pets.
I have joined the Forum to learn more about my Bird!
He is really Cool and I love him!
I have always wanted a Talking Bird!
Even though he is 2 years old, can he still learn to say new phrases and words?

A bird is never to old to learn to talk. A Friend of mine Barbara, her AG Jessie only started talking last year, AND he is 17 years old.....

Glad to join this forum and wish to learn a lot about parrot behaviour....I have a moluccan cocatoo who joined our family couple of months ago. We live in Toronto, Canada. I hope i am posting this at the right forum subject...please accept my apologies if at the wrong fourm..I am aware they are loud screamers about 135 decibles which is 5 less than a Jet plane...This is a hello from me and my pete...and hope to enjoy this journey with parrotforums.com...Thank you.
 
Hi we are a mid sized flock of 36 the majority are Amazons that came to me as rescue birds for the most part. I started wanting a bird I repeat A bird and would never trade any of them now I am so happy to be a part of their world I stay spellbound.
 
I've been on for a while, but didn't really introduce myself. My name is Becky, I live in S WV. I have a red crowned amazon (I thought 4 the first 4 years that he was a red lored amazon). Merlin will be 5 years old next week. He is my 1st bird, a xmas gift. I know your supposed to research, but a gift is a gift. It has been good, I've raised & trained horses all my life & have found that any animal will come around if you know where they are coming from. Merlin talks alot & I am his favorite person. We do everything together. I never realized how human like parrots were, he is like a toddler that flys. lol I have been doing alot of research, trying to get in his head. Hes pretty well behaved, has some quirks. I have ordered Good Bird by Barbara ????. We're trying to work out any rough edges. wrap it up now, dawg has met our friend the skunk & its not good....
 
Hi all,
I have just joined :) I found this forum because although I have been keeping birds for 27 years my 7 year old Golden-Crowned Caique, Paris, had started digging like a rabbit at the bottom of his cage and had started up his own hand made confetti business!!! My roll being the daily packing of the confetti! I will leave my introduction for now as it's early in the morning now.This looks like a great forum amd am pleased to have found it xx:yellow2::grey::rainbow1::orange: (these look similar to my 4 babies.:D)

Hi I am from Florida and my Aunt is thinking of purchasing a bird from a breeder in Florida - Spinoza's Breeders and Distributors and I was thinking the best people to go to would be people who actually own parrots and I looked up your website. Is there any site to go to that would tell you whether a breeder is good? I found only one thing about these breeders and it was in 2004 where a woman was questioning his breeding methods and she mentioned this website, so I am here to ask?
