Kiwi Stardust - a green cheek conure
Hello all Parronts!

Rio 2 will be released to most theaters April 11th 2014! I'm not sure if you guys saw the first Rio but it featured a rare blue spix Macaw called Blu. Rio 2 is a continuation of his journey, but now he has a family and three adorable blue spix macaw kids!! Too cute!

Thanks to Rio, I have a deep subconscious suspicion that all toos are maniacal evil birds. Honestly. :smile039:

I think it was impeccably appropriate for them to have a cockatoo play the evil guy hahha

I can't wait to see Rio 2!! :D

I know what I'll be doing with my kids that weekend. Too bad the birds can't come. They all have had their turn dancing with me during the club scene in the first Rio. :)

The first one was cute. I thought *roll eyes* yeah right. They have a person with a pet Spix's macaw lol.

I actually can't wait for Rio2!!!! I love the first one as well.... :)

I still can't watch the first Rio without crying. The scene in Minnesota where the girl finds baby Blue and they grow up together my sister leans over to me and says "That is so you." I also cry because I promised Diego we would watch the movie together after it came out on DVD but he had his stroke right before the movie was released on DVD. Rio is very bittersweet to me.

I do love the movie and can't wait for the second one. Maybe I will actually see it in the theater. I can't sneak in Valentino because he is too big. I use to sneak in my Noble macaw Mihijo to bird movies. He loved to watch movies with me.

Actually, this is based on a true story!

"Presley" the Spix's macaw was found living with his owner in Colorado, after a visit to the vet. He was returned to Brazil, and entered into the Spix breeding program, with Bill and Linda(!) Wittkoff. Unfortunately, his first (and so far, only) breeding attempt was unsucessful. Although he and his mate, Flor, had two clutches, their eggs were infertile.

The movie calls them 'blue macaws', but Tulio the ornithologist does mention their scientific name, Cyanopsitta spixii, confirming them as Spix's macaws.

I LOVE this movie (and not just because I love Spix's either!) although they do take a few liberties:

-Spix's are nowhere near as big as the movie suggests - in the movie they look like they're about scarlet macaw sized, but in reality they're the same size as Illiger's macaws.

-Spix's actually don't live in the Amazon jungle! They live in a very dry, arid area called the 'caatinga'.

-The good old cartoon 'bird foot' with only three toes. Oy vey.
