New rugs

Now that I read that new rugs are a hazard to birds (the fumes), I wonder...
I'm thinking this is what killed my lovebird.

My question is, though, how long do you wait/ how do you keep the bird away from the fumes.

I'm having some rooms in my house redone - how long should I wait until any bird comes into my house?

If I do get a new rug, what should I do? Keep the bird at a friends house?

There are certain glues you can request which have minimal fumes/odors. Then, according to the above site, 48-72 hours of ventilation should have it cleared out.

If it were me I'd probably overdo it: lots of fans and open windows, and give it several days, and vacuum thoroughly during the ventilation period (to make sure airflow is going across/through all the carpet as well so there are no stagnant zones).

The carpet was put in about 4 days ago, ALL windows near the room were open, the sliding door to the deck was open, was vacuumed, and on...

I'm making a trip to the parrot store today, to HOPEFULLY, make a final decision... wish me luck!

Not sure but I called the company and asked for the "eco-friendly" / safer glue and carpet.

i am interested in learning about the origin and development of different rug styles. could you guys help me out here? if those of you who have knowledge about the history of rug weaving, post a brief write-up each on the subject, it would, in course of time, pile up into a wealth of information on this interesting subject. anyone interested?

Traditionally, the materials used are wool, silk or a combination of the two. In the pile of handmade rugs synthetic materials are never used. Only fine and soft wool is used in making Oriental rugs, while a coarser wool is used in Turkish and Indian rugs. Silk is used in most Chinese rugs; the main reason is that China is the largest producer of wool; also the Chinese once believed using wool was barbaric.

Hi johne2 I think you should read this if you are interested in the origin of Persian rug designs. what you knew as Persian rugs may not have originated in Persia after all...
It is open to debate whether or not all the designs traditionally ascribed to Persia are in fact Persian in origin, and there is some evidence to suggest that a number may have had earlier links with Anatolia, India or Central Asia.

Not sure but rugs company use the material depend on the rug requirement.Different Different rugs available in the market.

I purchase some rugs after one year .I am having problems cleaning my area rug.there are some grease stains that I can't seem to get off it. the rug is also beginning to show signs of aging... small tears are visible on it. i believe i am not being able to take good care of it. can anyone suggest how i can get that stain off the rug. i could also use some maintenance tips.
