Hello,
I randomly found this forum looking for something else.
I have a 1 year old green cheek conure. His name is Kiwi. He was born 7/11/15

I did have a general question, by now shouldn't he be saying more than 10 words? Or is every bird different? Like kids they are all different.
I had Quakers before him and they spoke a lot.

Thank you!

Hello and welcome!
All birds are different, some have huge vocabularies and others never say a word. 10 words is actually really good for Kiwi, my GCC only says 4 words and he is 6:)

Thank you for the reply.
He says between 6-8 words.
Thank, you, Hi, Kiwi, Stop, Step, up, Dance. I think he's trying to learning other words. I've watched other GCCs on YouTube talk and they say sooo much more.
Right now, he's on his cage walking around saying "hi Kiwi, hi Kiwi.... Thank you "
They are funny birds :)

My Jax says Phoe Phoe and Green Green..lol
I guess 2 words in total:)
With many of our birds who talk, the more we talk to them, the more they seem to learn:)
With some, nope, not doing it.
Kiwi may learn more words yet.

10 words with a conure is GREAT... u have a lil scholar there... be proud

Welcome, you have a real cutie there!

My JoJo does imitations of blenders and squeaky toys.

That's funny, imitations. Especially the blender. Lol. Kiwi laughs, but only after my son laughs.

I think Patagonians are thought to be good talkers among the conures. Am I right about that? The Rickeybird talks a good deal... probably says 20 things at any one time (he loses and adds words as years come and go) and sings a J-Lo song (verrrrrry badly).

P.S.
Welcome, and... your birdy is so SO cute. Looks totally innocent and sweeeeet.

Your bird is so cute. Yeah 10 words is good. Yeah all birds are different. My little black capped started saying step up a week after we got him. He is trying to say more but I am having a hard time understanding him he is only 6 months old.

My female senegal kiwi was her name said "pretty birds" good morning" "hey baby" that's about it. What she lacked in talking she made up for in the amazing sounds she could mimic. The squeaky door was the best. She even made the sound of Ice hitting the side of glass in a drink. She would laugh too.

I do think males tend to be the better talks in general but don't quote me.

What will blow your mind is if you talk to your birds like I do... they learn word association like a human child.. for instance when I grab my truck keys both of my birds tell me "bye bye". Lots more examples of this in my house.. they never cease to amaze me. ... even putting several words together learned separately to let me know what they want.

Hehe, your bird sings a JLo song? Which one? That's cute!! Yah kiwi has lost one word already. Kind of weird how they do that.
