New to this birdy thing

Do you think Malcolm would be ok traveling with me and staying in the camper we have a smaller cage and basically the only time he would be in it would be while he sleeps and while I am out.

Most amazons travel well. Do make sure your camper is absolutely reliable for temperature maintainance. The only real danger that I can think of is if you leave for a period of time and the air conditioner stops running or something. You could bake the little guy pretty fast I would think. Thats why I never take birds on camping trips etc with me. My guys can do a quick overnight in a hotel no problems. If I thought I'd actually stay at the campsite the whole time, I'd take one with me camping too. But usually I'm out fishing and hiking or doing something not safe for the birds. Theft can also be an issue too, so make sure your camper is secure and fairly tamper proof before leaving him. I'd be inclined to leave him home myself, but depending on what kind of camper you have, it might be doable. Travel and socialization as Richard said is a good thing if you can do it safely.

The camper is pretty much a second home since my husband works 4 hrs away and only comes home for weekends (hence why I am going up there to look for a new home). I normally take the dogs and cats with me when I go, but if I take Mal I would only take him and dogs. I generally only go to the pool with my friends if they are up their too.

Hi and welcome.....
I wish you all the best, being a guardian, if done correctly, it can be the most rewarding thing in the world.
I have an African Grey Mishka, who if the love of my life. Unfortunately my knowledge is limited with Amazon's.
You sure took on a big responsibility, taking on an Amazon, having never had a bird before. There are many guardian's on this forum, who will guide and assist you, every step of the way.
I found a great link, pertaining to Amazons, read through it, many interesting articles and tips.
