Hi im Manuel from Peru :white1:

i have been looking in youtube and found this video of different lentil rice and flour i could feed it [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNVh3w_8kG0"]How to Make Healthy Feed for Baby Parrot at Home - YouTube[/ame]

i was wondering if i could feed him brown rice, brown lentil and wheat fllour
also how many other options do of food can i give it and how much a day?
and when can i feed it normal fruits please help thanks!!

i think it will grow up to look like this (i really hope its not injured it just a bit weak maybe but it still tries to scratch its feathers
know their skin is very fragile and also raises its wings :D ) :greenyellow::green2::green1::green1:

The chick wont last long without professional help. It will require/need special formula at just the right temperature and around the clock feeding.
Please look for experienced help close to you.
Good luck.

aww i totally asked my mom to go see a doctor to try to help it but she doesnt want to i wonder if there is any way i could make my own special formula :(

Baby parrot food is thin, like baby forlula, but don't use that. If you have some kind of blender , blend up as many kind of veggies you can , add some water. You want to feed it at a little above body temperature. This is going to take a lot of work from you , baby parrots need to be feed every 3 to 4 hours. You should try to read up quickly on what is required to keep this little one alive, because I am no expert.

Thank you ill try my best to make this baby's parrot life as enjoyable as i can i have already blended some ripe platain brown rice and lentil for him to eat and he liked it i always warm jt in the microwave bfore giving it to him thanks

When you warm it in the microwave the liquid can form pockets of very hot formula. When you take it out from the microwave, stir it well to mix any hot areas back in. The formula should be checked with a thermometer. If you don't have one, put a small amount on the inside of your wrist. It should feel barely warm. If you give formula that's too hot it will actually burn a hole through the baby's crop! A real hole! If the formula is too cold, it will solidify inside the crop and the crop will stay full instead of emptying to make room for more food. Either way, the baby will not survive without veterinary care. It is difficult to care for these young babies, so in its cases it's best to leave them, put them a short high in the tree as you can reach, and often the parents will continue to protect and feed the baby.

There are some good posts on this forum, you can use the search feature to look up more advice. I hope it works out for you and for the baby.

Welcome to the forum, Manuel! Thanks for caring for this baby bird, but you both will need much help! If your mom will not take you to the vet, is it possible to search for a bird breeder? Or are there any animal welfare organizations that are familiar with birds?

Hand-feeding a baby bird is a challenge, but with the right materials and time you can do this. Very important to have someone show you exactly how this is done, and yes, temperature of food is very important!

The best chance for this baby is to plead with your mom to see a vet, preferably one that is certified for avians!

thanks for your words as the days go and by some comments from this post i have kept taking care of it :green2:

and its doing well so far havent taken it to a bet yet but here are some of the changed that hes got: its feathers are popping he flaps its wings when i put it on the box where it normally sleeps after being sleepy next to me i thought it would just want to sleep but turned out it might have prefered to sleep next to me? i know they are very social birds and its rly cute
it also squacks but not too much :P i keep feeding it the same formula from post 1 with some platain all blended im feeding it every 3 -4 hours

here are some pics my kitty is kinda jealous of the new baby but im happy he is not agressive

You are doing awesome!
A word of warning, kitty is hungry! A simple scratch is fatal for you r new baby!

thank you :D im very careful with kiki if i would have felt kiki was in distress i wouldnt have let him next to the baby but kiki was very calm thats why i let him around for a minute:green2:

thank you :) im happy it came to my life so randomly even though i was really scared at first i wonder if its male or female idk how to tell:white1:

I'm glad your baby is doing better, but please, please, please consider not having the cat so close! Any animal can be unpredictable and the bird will not have a chance against a suddenly angry or jealous cat. A scratch, even a playful one can fatally infect the bird. It would be so nice to see them grow together, but the odds are very poor. We've all heard about the exceptions, but the price of being wrong is too high!

Not sure the type of parrot, so cannot say whether you can eventually determine the sex by appearance.

So the baby is doing good though its not eating as much as it used to eat back then maybe cuz it loves flapping its wings and flying to my head and my moms head haha
its also friendly with my friends i have bought it a clay mold for it to chew but it still prefers to chew fingers or earlobes lmao it really likes company and being with us are conures this dependant? it reminds me of myself on my relationships lol
but anyways should i stop boiling and blending stuff to feed it? should i give it more fruit? i give it ripe platain also for it to chew on its own and some of those canary grass though i dont know how good it is for this conure i used to feed a rly small parrot long time ago some sunflower seeds

but yeah here are some pictures of the not so baby baby conure

any advice? also i havent taken it to the vet yet sorry call me irresponsible but i dont have any money yet i might do it soon tho maybe it needs some shots? idk i have noticed its starting to sneeze just a lil bit maybe allergies? cuz u know i also live with a cat but even tho it sneezes just sometimes not all the time it still flies alot to our heads and is very curious and energetic

thanks

Cute ! How did you guys find the little guy ?

Birds don't need shots, but they do need a good physical and possibly some bloodwork to indicate how healthy he is. If you got him under somewhat questionable circumstances that doesn't have a good guarantee for his health, I'd recommend it. Just to give you a ballpark, a proper avian vet will run you at least $200 a visit, depending on how much bloodwork you get done.

He looks like he's getting old enough that he'll want to eat on his own some more, now. Get some good pellets for him to try (Roudybush or Harrison's is what most folk recommend), soak them in fruit juice, and see if he'll try them. Don't feed too many seeds, especially sunflower which are very fatty; but I'd still introduce them as they still are good for a bird in moderation. Some birds really like spray-millet so you can give that a try. And finally, try to see if he'll eat veggies in a non-formula form, though still give it to him if he wants it.

thanks :) my mom found it at the streets, wow thats super expensive im actually in Peru right now i couldnt afford that much D: though a vet recommeded us someone who works with exotic animals and he was asking for around 20$ a visit

ill try looking at vet shops for roudybush or harrison though in my city there isnt too many good places to look at ill try, the spray millet looks very interesting, what kind of veggies would u recommend me? i have only given it grains like lentil brown rice quinoa and sesame seeds but always boiled

He's looking great! Hard to know why he sneezes, but birds are very good at hiding illness. Do you notice any wetness or discharge from the nose?

If you can get him to an exotic vet, perhaps they can do a good checkup for reasonable cost? Even some very basic blood chemistry would be helpful.

Here's a good list of safe foods: http://www.parrotforums.com/parrot-...afe-fresh-foods-toxic-food-lists-sprouts.html

I realize not all foods are available across the world, but there are many that are common.

I'm not too familiar with vets in Peru, so it is very likely they're cheaper. Just make sure they're specially trained with avians/birds (I'm not sure if you can be certified in Peru like in the US). Bloodwork will cost more, but it's worth it if you can rule out some diseases. Commonly they'll test for stuff like parrot fever, which is transmittable to humans and can be asymptotic until it's too late. A gram stain test is usually the cheapest and most helpful test you can do if you can't do anything else. They'll look to see the types of bacteria in your bird's droppings to determine general health.

I know getting those brands can be harder in different countries. I think Zupreem does a decent pellet as well. Ordering online can be a good option, though hopefully shipping won't kill the cost.
