Nike a Hawk Head Parrot (Deroptyus accipitrinus)
Nike hasn't taken a bath in her bowl in weeks and it was sweltering today....and I needed a shower!

I brought her up to the bathroom and put her portable perch on the toilet tank and pulled the curtain all the way back and got in. When I was done I took her on my hand and slowly let the water bounce off my head onto her. My water pressure sucks so the shower is very gentil, almost like rain.

after she didn't react I slowly pulled her completely under the shower. I expected her to go nuts but she just stood there chirping. Some birds I guess get very excited and flap their wings but she just let it rain on her.

was pretty cool, could have stayed in longer. I may try it again tomorrow if its hot.

Now, on my shoulder she smells like a wet dog but she got totally bathed.

It was not only her first time in the shower but her first time up in the bathroom so it was all new for her.

That would be a double win! And, that would be a wet Bird, no need in ticking-off the dog owners! :D

It is a wonderful moment when a parrot showers. The joy of showering comes with time! Enjoy!

Bravo Nike! That really went well for two in one first time experiences. I love watching birds bathe and play in water. I have mostly bowl bathers but my male quaker, Sammy literally dances in the mist as long as my wrist holds out to keep spraying. Quakers don't smell so great when they are soaking wet. :)

I've noticed most conures have a distinct smell when wet, as do amazons (also when dry.) It's like a musky smell! I quite enjoy the wet or dry amazon smell though, don't know what it is!

It's been hot as heck here and I've been trying to get everyone bathed or at least spritzed daily, and have been putting in extra water bowls just in case!

To me, amazons, especially when they are happy, smell like cinnamon Christmas cake. Nike looks nice and fresh after a good drenching .
