I was wondering whats a normal amount of daily feather loss during a moult? Audrey is losing a fair bit of feathers (no bald spots or anything) but I just walked in to see her sitting in the cage holding one of her big feathers with her foot and chewing on it. I'm hoping she didn't pull it out herself? They mostly seem to come out when she is preening though the odd one falls out when she fluffs up.

Ruby alarmed me with her first molt, she lost multiple feathers each day up to like 8-10. Ruby also loves to chew on her lost feathers, and holds them in her foot to chew them for hours. Sounds like a normal Ekkie molt to me per my experience with Ruby's first molt.

Haha okay thanks! She has gone through a moult before, but nothing like this. She is probably losing around 10 feathers a day, that I notice. She's lost a lot more today than any other day, and yep she loves chewing on the moulted feathers! A lot of her little head feathers are coming out so I know she can't be pulling those ones out. Its just a worry haha, you always have to wonder what's normal and what's not! :P

She maybe going through a mojo molt, which means she will loose most of her feathers quite quickly. These aren't that frequent, but they be horrifying because she will go from a pretty bird to real scruffy bird in no time. Also, Eclectus are notorious over-preeners, so you need to watch for that.

I'm still trying to break Mac of that habit.

That could be possible, mtdoramike I have read about those before. She doesn't have any bald patches and doesn't look too scruffy but it has only just started. She doesn't seem to be be over preening but I keep a close eye on that. :) Thanks
