A crossover Quaker Scuti (F), A Sun conure named AC, A Cinnamon Green Cheek conure Kent, and 4 budgies, yellow (m), clark Jr. (m), Dot (f), Zebra(f).
So previous attempt I moved the budgies upstairs to protect the babies and both passed, as the mothers didn't recognize their nests in the new safe room. My mistake. https://www.parrotforums.com/threads/new-baby-and-tragedy-but-opportunity.105401/page-2#post-1102216

This time I left them in place and it seems like the two Conures and the Quaker are more on board. I've left them in place.

Dot now has two babies with down feathers even some with proto feathers, (I can see stripes on heads, Zebra has at least one pinkie with a full crop last time I looked today.) I have a Samsung Galaxy 25 but it cant seem to shoot inside the box. GD it.

One thing I noticed, I am having to put out seed millet broccoli in the morning and then again when I get home from work! They are like horses loose in a grain barn. Apples are also getting getting demolished. Grapes as well but that's normal.

In a week or two the babies may try to venture out, and end up on the floor? Now........

This is when they are going to be the most vulnerable I have metal plates on the boxes for now to keep bigger birds away so they are insulated. Should I pull them out before they try to fly and manage everything separate in like plastic bins and only let them out when I'm there?

I can put them in their own room, but last time the moms forgot they had kids because of it.

The bigger birds.... the sun conure the biggest and strongest one, AC wouldn't hurt them. The GCC is so infatuated with them he'd bite just out of excitement....also has been known to start a fight. The Quaker parrot, a female seems ok with Dot, but hates Zebra and her baby in a box for some reason.

If anyone has some Ideas I'd appreciate. If these babes make it there will be baby pictures and a name my new baby budgies thread.... not going that far yet till they can fly away from danger.

Yeah that is the best I can deliver for now sorry.

I would do what I could to keep the babies safe. They can't protect themselves, only you can do that. I don't know your set up well enough to make specific suggestions.

Basically the entire downstairs is a man cave and an aviary. All the birds love the cages, but are not bound to them and can move about. The big birds will be pissed that they aren't in the man cave. I'll figure it out maybe. I guess next question how long after they feel ready until the babies can actually fly?

My budgies had babies last summer. The kids didn't leave the nest box until they were ready to fly. After they fledged they kept going back into the box to hang out with Mom who was sitting on another clutch. She seemed to like having them in there to keep her company and help keep the new eggs warm.

It really is amazing how much budgies feeding chicks can eat! Eating and feeding seems continuous all day.

Ok new hiccup.

I opened up the box and the birds legs were splayed. So I got these amazon clips that youtube says works. Also added a washcloth. So we will see it says in a few days they should be able to stand. The other bird zebra also has two babies but both are to small to get the clamp on he/she just kept sliding out of it. And the other one is a little pinky, way to small but will add a washcloth.

Would it help if I pulled them out to hold more, pushing their feet together and opening their toes, teaching them to stand?

Maybe.

You can get rubber bands and make your own ankle cuffs . Or Google splayed legs budgie chick treatment snd look at the pictures of homemade gadgets. It's very important to treat this early.
Take a picture of the affected chicks snd post it.

OK so both cage have a wash cloth now the anklets look like this. Both have washcloths in the back of the box now.

Those ankle cuffs should work great. I took the babies out and played with them once they had feathers and could stay warm and Mom didn't live in the box all day long anymore. The parents didn't seem to care.

I noticed that the mom isn't always in anymore!!!!.....so if I say put them in a bin to go to work all day and work with them....or the mom would be disowning them. I think the can self regulate temperature now but I don't want moms abandoning them.

I'd be holding them and helping to stand. But if the mom forgets them after 8 hours nope. I can't raise them without her.

Mom and dad still need to feed them all day every few hours. Take them out and play with them but put them back.
Just be prepared for your females to start laying another clutch before the current kids are even fully fledged. They may be hard to stop unless you remove the boxes.

I am enjoying this. I have limited experience I have with baby birds. Chickens, mean geese, aggressive ducks and peacocks on the family farm. Exotic quail my mom raised in the basement. Happily these babies were self sufficient!

Copy. so no all day field trips but I can work on them....both moms were in when I took them out and were ok with it,,, I guess they realize I'm not a budgie but I mean no harm.
