Hey y'all,

I am going to write a parent letter for my preschool students asking if the parents are okay with me bring in Roxy for a "show & learn". My main question is if I can say she does not cause allergies? I've read past posts on here saying that their conure did....but I have heard from others saying their hypoallergenic. :p Also, for any teachers out there, what would you say in a letter like this to parents getting their consent? (I'm student teaching currently)

P.S. They won't be touching her. Just using their eyes lol. She is really good with hanging out on my while I talk to kids.

They are not hypo-allergenic, I'm allergic to mine. Plus what if she decides to jump on a kid and bite them. Preschoolers are noisey, and they don't always listen, which could be bad if they decide to get too close. I wouldn't risk it, though it would be cool.

When I was in elementary school my mom brought in our 6 foot iguana for something similar. I also bring my galah with me when I pick up my niece sometimes and the kids love it.

Conures do have feather dust(causes allergies) but most pets will do this.

Thanks! Roxy won't be out of her cage during it. So no worries about her jumping off. And these preschoolers have it down about being quiet during circle time and that's when we listen. I would never bring her in if I was the tiniest bit worried. I have her well socialized and I have brought her to a kindergarten class already. She was perfect with standing on my shoulder and didn't once jump off. But like I said, she won't even be getting out of the cage for the preschoolers.

Well in that case I think it would be a great idea, I know I would have loved to have a parrot com into my classes all I have had come in were dogs and lobsters.

A lobster???? That's too funny!

I'd say go for it as long as she'll be in her cage. :D

I have taken my GW macaw to my classroom before, the kids loved it!

All the parents said it was okay to bring Roxy in the classroom. Should be doing it this Tuesday. Excited to see their smiles :) There are SO many lessons you can teach with an animal, especially a parrot. (With my preschoolers we are going to try and name all of her colors lol)
