Cockatiel
Hello! I have a quick question about my cockatiel. He is a male pied cockatiel and it around 5-6 months old.

I’ve noticed that his cheeks are getting brighter in colour and I noticed that forehead and crest area had some orange markings ?? There’s also a faint orange mark on his back. I have attached some pics below 👇 sorry they aren’t so good he just moves a lot. In the pics the circled area might look dark yellow to some people but in real life it’s orange and it’s also brighter in real life. His crest also has some dark grey strands all of a sudden. Is this all normal? Im guessing he’s just growing up but the orange marks were confusing me.

Also about his nails: I have attached a pic below 👇 are they too long and should be cut now? And is the black line that I made where I’m supposed to cut? Can I also use normal nail clippers for humans ?

Thanks! 🦅 💕

I can't help with the orange marking but the black line would cut too much claw - you can see "something pinkish" on the claws and they're the bird's veins - if you cut them, your bird will be bleeding (you can cut only the light part). At this moment the claws of your bird don't seem to be very long to me. The human nail clippers are ok

Also very random question but what does it mean when ur bird opens up both of its wings and is in this lunging position? Kiko does it and makes this weird shrieking sound and bites his cage.

They are frustrated and/or hormonal. It can be for literally no reason (Stormy used to hop on my hand, bite me, then when I put him down, he bit everything else he saw), or because they didn't like something that happened...
