Our new baby "Nuggie"

Well I decided on an "english" budgie. drove two and a half hours to find someone who hand raised them but it was worth every minute he/she's such a sweet little thing. We're still a little iffy on the new house, new giant cage, and no nestmates. But being literally just hours since we came home were doing amazingly well. Nuggie seems happier when im next to the cage talking to him/her. Hands make him nervous but he doesnt run from them.
Im going to try to attach photos since im sure none of you have ever seen a budgie this cute before.lol
I do have one question though. I chose an "english" or show budgie because they are larger than petstore budgies. currently nuggie is about the same size as a petstore budgie but with a little bigger head maybe.
will he continue to get bigger? my internet research says anything from when birds are fully feathered they are full grown, to they will continue to grow for a year. I assume they will fill out as they mature but I'm wondering if nuggie will get taller? The breeder said that nuggie is 7 to 8 weeks old now.

It's kind of hard to tell, but he does look a little bigger than the ones at the pet stores.

Awwww...Nuggie is sooo precious!

I'm not entirely familiar with English Budgies...however, at the pet store a month or so ago, I saw my first one. It was BIG! I'd say almost twice the size of a "normal" budgie. I'd compare it to a Green Cheek type conure in size, and I think compared to the conure they had in the pet store, the english budgie was slightly bigger, almost the size of a cockatiel, but not quite... I was quite shocked, actually.

So by looking at the picture, I'd say your guy has some definite growing ahead of him/her. How exciting!

OMg! My daughter wants one so much! She has been waiting for the bird farm in town to have babies. They currently have eggs! Please keep us posted as to Nuggie's personality. My older daughter has a linnie who is absolutley charming! She is a tiny little turquoise bird with the heart of a big parrot! Sometimes I think that if Lili really wants her own bird that we should get another linnie as we know what the personalities are like. However I have to admit I love, love, love the looks of an English budgie! I just don't know anything about their behavior, please keep us updated! He/she is beautiful! Lili is in love!

Nuggie is a cutie! My breeder also breeds English Budgies, they are definately bigger than the normal ones! I had never seen one before.

Yes, 'English' ( though the terms 'American' and 'English' budgies are incorrect, it's show and pet types ) budgies do fill out when they get older. Some, like rec pieds and spangles take a long time ( sometimes almost a year to reach full size ).
They are pretty big lol, I think a few of mine are half show budgie.

The accent mainly. But also breakfast food choices differ greatly ... and of course providing medical care for an English budgie is much cheaper.

Well as near as I can figure people call show or exibition budgies "english budgies" I've also heard of "english budgies" that are not larger than "american" or petstore budgies but actually hardier than the rest. The breeder we bought nuggie from said she had both types of "english budgies". Its kind of like Teacup chihuahuas or pitbulls. neither breed of dog actually exists but that doesnt stop breeders from selling them in the paper for hundreds of dollars.

so I'm thinking the breeder we got nuggie from was a little less than honest with us. Being a beginner I dont know much and dont want to accuse just yet. but i really dont see any difference between nuggie and the budgies in the petstore. We paid 3 times the petstore price in hopes of getting a larger "english" budgie. So far all my research says we did NOT recieve a larger exhibition or english budgie.
Now having said that nuggie was worth every dime we paid in fact I would double the price for a bird as cool as her. (shes so quiet i decided nuggie is a female)
anybody out there have any experience with exhibition budgies and know how large they should be at 8 weeks? I'm just trying to figure out whate type of budgie she is more out of curiosity than anything.

Even if it is not the 'breed' as advertised, a well socialized hand-fed budgie would still be expected to cost more than the typical pet-store-budgie who may not be comfortable with people.

WOO HOO Nuggie willingly stepped up on my finger today for the first time! she was being naughty before that and I had to keep picking her up off the floor. she finally quit jumping off her playstand and a half hour later I walked up and put my finger to her chest and said "up". and she stepped right up no questions asked. she has also gotten to the point where she will call for me when I leave the room. Not bad for day 5 if you ask me.

Wasn't sure if you knew this or not, but budgies are sexually dimorphic as adults, you can tell by the color of their ceres, males are generally blue/purple while females are brown/reddish. Here are some pics to help you out Your Budgie / Parakeet's Sex
