We picked up our newest addition, Tyrion today! He's a normal grey tiel, like Arya. I've got a few questions about the transition and how it may be different since this is our second bird in the house now.

I've got three big cages as of now, one which Arya is living in, and tomorrow, Tyrion (the new bird), will be in another one of them. I have two single-bird cages and the third is multi-bird. It could fit probably four tiels maximum. However, I know Arya may get jealous if I pay attention to Tyrion more than him (seeing as he's my first bird). Should I move Arya into the multi-bird cage and then after the quarantine move Tyrion into the multi cage? That way Arya might not be jealous if he sees that Tyrion is in his space and not the other way around. (Arya is timid, so I was less concerned about Arya getting possessive about food bowls or attacking Tyrion. Should I still be concerned though?)

Otherwise, should I keep Tyrion in the other single bird cage and then put them together in the multi cage after yhe quarantine so they're both in an unfamiliar place? Tyrion is louder and more tame than Arya, but I haven't seen Tyrion around other birds for long periods of time, so I don't know how he would act with new birds. Arya I'm gy essing would be pretty laid back. He always chats with the pet store birds when I get his nails clipped there. I'm concerned about Tyrion staking claim in a new cage if Arya is unfamiliar with it too because Arya is so laid back and submissive. What do you guys think?

Also, should I maintain the quarantine for one or two months? I will be including vet visits immediately after getting settled at home and also before I end it, but how long do you guys recommend?

Thanks and sorry for the long post! xD :grey::grey:

IMO you should still take Tyrion to get virus checked for the more common contagious deadly ones. There's never a guarantee that if they're carrying something, that it will pop out in the first 1-2 months. They say that because illnesses are more likely to come out during times of stress like moving to a new environment, but things can come out later.

There's always a chance of quarreling with birds sharing the same cage. I'd say introduce them at near the same time to reduce chance of territorial aggression. I know budgies tend to get along pretty well in a colony, whereas bigger parrots don't usually tolerate the invasion. Maybe cockatiels are colony birds too? There are multiple tiel owners here that could better answer that.

I love the name Tyrion - I've heard here that it's from a tv show or a character from something? I'm not familiar...

Thanks for your reply, and yes Arya and Tyrion are Game of Thrones names. :P courtesy of my obsessed sister, haha! I will be getting Tyrion checked twice, with a new bird wellness check. I'm leaning towards a one month quarantine assuming the first check goes well. I'd have him checked before the first introduction also. Is that okay?
