Outdoor aviary recommendations

Hi,

I have two indoor female conures. I don’t clip their wings and they fly around the house. My goal is to give them a couple of hours of outdoor time, to forage on actual trees and plants, and then bring them inside the house for our usual routine. I have been searching for big cages but I am not convinced on any of them. Do you guys know of a website or company that provides custom cages? I live in Miami

There are a ton of custom outdoor aviaries online that are very nice (we aren’t supposed to advertise per parrot forum rules), but if you do a google search for outdoor custom aviaries a lot will come up. Just read reviews, ask for warranty information, and you’d want the proper bar spacing. For my sun conure I did 5/8 inch for his cage. I believe they are a hair larger than green cheeks. It would be nice if local stores carried aviaries so we could see them in person. Some can be really cheap, and flimsy.

Be very careful with your conures outside. They are very flighty when scared. Many people on this forum have lost their parrots to the outdoors. It’s heartbreaking to read.

Also know that parrots have been stolen from outdoor aviaries. So if you do proceed to get an outdoor aviary think of places to put it that aren’t easily visible to people walking, or driving by.

Lastly check that any plants that you expose your conures to are safe for them. Some will be toxic, and deadly. This is also a topic I’ve seen on the forum that has unfortunately not ended well.
