Pantry/Seed Moths- Help?

Hi everyone, for the past few years, we have been dealing with pantry moths that seem to be coming from the bottom of our Blue and Gold Macaw's cage. I assume it is likely due to the seeds that fall onto the bottom of her cage, and they usually disappear for a while after cleaning the cage littler, and come back when it gets dirty again.

Does anyone have any tips on how to get rid of the bugs? I've heard that maybe changing her diet from seeds to pellets would help. She is currently on a diet of assorted seeds,

She has had this diet since we've had her.

Any suggestions would be HUGELY appreciated!

Freeze the seeds for 24 hours after you purchase them. That took care of my problem of the moths.

I just have a few questions,
For freezing the seeds, would the moths still be able to infest it? I worry that there could be some left over that have yet to hatch.

As for changing her diet from seeds, any recommendations for what to change it to would be VERY appreciated! I'm a bit clueless since we've been feeding her the same diet for years.

As for the seed question, any moths that are in th seed will die with the freezing of it. If you are asking if there may be some that have yet to hatch in your house, I would keep an eye on your birds cage, but they at least won't be able to get into the seed in the freezer. You then just pull it out as you need it.

In regards to what to feed your macaw, fresh fruits and vegetables are a daily need. Seed needs to be highly regulated as it is not a suitable diet for a parrot as it is very high in fat. I've heard recommendations of giving seed once a week ( some people don't give seed at all). Pellets make up the other part of their diet. Different people have different opinions on them but some will say that the colored pellets are not as good as natural colored pellets due to the dyes and artificial flavoring. My African grey gets seed on Sunday's and has a diet of natural colored pellets and fresh fruit and vegetables. She also gets snacks throughout the day of whatever I'm snacking on. When I get my macaw in a few months he/she will be on the same diet

Amy gets a "little" seed,but regularly munches from her nummy bowl. And I have had problems also with those dang moths! I do freeze the seed and keep a container in the fridge..BUT still get moths! I have found that the larve will thaw after it lands on the floor of Amys house and will STILL get those buggers!
The only way I seem to get rid of them is to change her papers everyday!

Sorry for my short answer, pellets? Not perfect! Same thing as you eating only high quality energy bars..boring!

My JoJo presently eats, Zupreem-3 varieties, Tops, Roudybush , lafebers, Goldenfeast-about 5 products- hates golden'oboes-so do the wild birds!, Tropican sticks. Also I sprout seeds for her and she shares my daily breakfast..ground flax, hemp seed, chia seed.. Now I have only one little monster, an awesome GCC, I buy in bulk and I also store wifeie's food for Bongo at my house. Everything is kept in a chest freezer, I have zero moths!----And, I am a guy living alone, so I do NOT subscribe to "Cleanliness is next to Godliness"!
Forgot, also, evil sunflower seeds, the real small, non oily.. Small amount..shares my walnuts, almonds, pecans!

There are many here that also do daily fresh veggies and fruit chop for their babies, and baked birdie breads-Wow!

Needed to add, without exception, anything I first offer JoJo, she is insulted and throws it on the floor! Two things, I never offer new food in her dishes, just her treat stand,, and, after her first, are you an idiot response, I pull it away and eat it myself! By third time, she acts like, where has this been all my life!
