Tried a bunch of different ingredients in chop and various amounts of chopping in the food processor from coarse to paste. Total no-go for him. It must be freshly cut by hand and exactly the right size or else! I'm told most parrots love cooked oatmeal too, but if it's anything sticky or goopy, he won't go anywhere near it. Oddly, he'll eat plain oatmeal dry.

Parrots are weird, and I love it!
I just got told to give my parrot oatmeal & apples for his medication. He took one bite, shook his head while flinging the oatmeal… right on my white carpet 🤣🤣 no, I am not kidding this just happened days ago. Oatmeal is much easier to get out of the carpet than blue berries. I finally understand what his argument is about.

We don’t have any certified avian vets here. I would have to travel quite a ways to get to one. I’m thankful that the ones I do see try to help. I have been adding fruit to my parrots chop. Otherwise they will NOT eat it. Both of my larger birds are bowl tossers too. I got a talking to from my vet. I tried to take out the fruit but then they don’t eat their chop. I feel like I can’t win.
I know what you mean! lol. Sophie loves fruit too but she cant have too much otherwise she gets way way too hormonal. What i did is mash up a little guava and mix that into her vegetable chop. I did that for about a month untill i lessened the amount of mashed up guava and now its all vegetable chop (her vegetable chop also includes some healthy grain and seed). I do however give her a little fruit on wednsdays and sundays as those are her "cheat days" LOL!

It is funny how different birds are! My macaw will not eat small pieces of fruit and veg. He likes big chunks or he takes bites out of the entire piece of fruit or veg. Sometimes I throw an entire apple or mango in his cage and he chows down on that. I have never experienced food tossing in 50 years! I am a clean freak. Luckily my parrot is a neat freak as well. 😜

Blue the macaw would love mango, and apples. Whole as well. I think the goal is to get him eating some veggies, and superfood. He is declining eating broccoli for an example. He will toss his bowl, and scream bloody murder especially in the morning when he’s hungry. I’m a neat freak too. I’m also one of those crazy 🤪 organization people. Im currently engaging on where to place my mats so the food projectile doesn’t include my carpet. Macaws can really launch food. In my younger years I was a lot more just go with the flow.

My bird looooves his giant octopus friend, Octavio. Here he is pulled in by a sticky tentacle. An inter-species love match for the ages!
