Parrots
Amy a Blue Front 'Zon
Jonesy a Goffins 'Too who had to be rehomed :-(

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
..and their opinions.. I dunno.maybe I am overly predjudice,being a parront.
Amy and I walked into our local Mukie Mart to visit TJ,Jonesy new parront,to see how the boy is doing. Walking in behind me,was an elderly woman < maybe late 70's,early 80's> and I heard her say " Oh NOOOooo..birds aren't suppose to be in stores".. TJ <the owner> and I,pretended like we didn't hear her,and I said nothing in response.

This morning,Amy and I went to our local Donut Factory, where EVERYONE knows me,and her,and all I could hear was positive things from every customer.. < Ohhhhh! Amy is here! Oh, look at the beautiful bird :54: :D Look! she is eating a munchkin! people were asking questions, and Amy, being the charming little girl that she is,could not resist answering them in 'zon speak, amusing the masses lol. < I could have charged for Amys performance lmbo!>
AND,she was the sweetest little green bird I could imagine! I could really PET her..gentle rubs to her back and arms, skritches to her noggin..she didn't even attempt to nip at me,perched well on my shoulder. Some days are just fantastic with our fids! :p :D

... just haven't got a clue! At least those who haven't enjoyed time with an Amazon!

The little old lady needs to be 'learned-up.' She must have been a new customer or something, and just didn't know. So sad!

Is it not, just amazing how a place lights-up when an Amazon enters the room. Especially, when its Amy! Those lucky people!

LOL... and Amy gives a BIG THANK YOU! :green: :D :54:

Riiiiiiiiiight! Because birds are so filthy, disgusting, and carriers of every wretched disease and parasite known to science! :D

I just do not understand people. Your bird would be so fun to see!!! You are an awesome parront! I was wondering, how do you bring Amy out? Do you have her in a travel cage or an aviator harness?

I've learned to go one of two ways: ignore it or make a REALLY snarky comment to shut them up.

Why? Everyone wants to know how a person my age could end up in a wheelchair. Then they ask all sorts of personal questions (which I truly don't mind) but that's only IF they don't start speaking loudly like I'm deaf or slowly like my mind doesn't work right. My IQ is still high and while I do have hearing loss, it has nothing to do with my spine.

I've learned one thing- people stare at anything different from them. Many more people suffer from DMS (diarrhea of the mouth syndrome) and quite a few suffer from DMS-A, which is less common but definitely not rare. You can guess what the A stands for.

You can pretend you don't speak English. This tactic works well.
You can also put in earbuds. Music or not, it's a good way to feel more comfortable completely ignoring people.

My best advice is to continue living your life and don't let ignorant people or jerks keep you from being and doing you.

I find a self-deprecating joke throws people off guard and can lead to many laughs or they quickly walk away and leave you alone for fear you're absolutely crazy.

Nope I just put her on my shoulder,or arm,and off we go! She is always clipped when its this time of year coz I try and take her out as much as possible, and she is so well behaved, she doesn't try and hide,or run away..I KNOW she has total trust in ME..that "daddy" would NEVER put her in harms way. She "jumped" off my arm ONCE, a few years back, when we were outside, coz something scared/spooked her. She always stays put,or hides behind my head lol. She is truly an awesome Amazon :D :D :D

Haha! I walked into a PET STORE of all places and a customer there gasped and ran into a dog toy display just quivering at the sight of my cockatiel. And it's not that she's had a bad experience, she just thinks that birds are evil dive bombers. I can't imagine how she reacts to a pigeon on the sidewalk...

Some people are so ridiculous. :p I'm happy to hear that Amy has plenty of admirers!

We could start a LARGE thread of funny people..comments and questions.when we venture out with our birds...

Well I would have probably asked her if she saw the sign out front saying nasty old ladies were not allowed to abuse the customers in the store ...but thats just me....Im pretty quiet until someone opens their mouth about my dogs or my birds and then its Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde time :) :) ignore her she doesnt know what shes missing :)

Jim, awesome trip with Amy. Funny how they turn into bird ambassadors sometimes. Salty was like that when I took him to work. Perfect gentleman, shaking hands with everyone, doing some of his tricks, etc. At home, sometimes, he is a meat slicing, eye pinning, head bobbing picture of overloaded Amazon. Amy sure sounds like he had a great time.
