I bought an african grey a couple of weeks ago, shes a 7 year old congo. She immediately bonded with me, and now all she wants to do is mate with me! I can't take it, nothing i try works. Whenever I pick her up( or even talk to her) she goes into "mating mode", she drops her wings to the side and starts moving her hind end around. She also regurgitates and makes little cooing noises. I've tried walking away, ignoring her, distracting her with toys... nothing works! Its to the point that I dont want to even interact with her because its ALL she wants, and i dont want to confuse her. Will she be like this forever? What else can I do?

Ever since the Rickeybird hit sexual maturity at about 3-4 years of age, I've had to manage his hormones! If kept on too steady a long day, and too much light, he stayed "in the mood" (aggressive, even louder than usual, pleasuring himself on my neck ) year round. If I keep him on a natural light schedule... up with dawn, down with dusk, year around... THEN he's only a little monster rooster from July to September). He has his own room, so I can do that easily.

You can reduce this mating behavior by making her days shorter....
to at most 8, 9 or 10 hours per 24 hours.
If they have too much light hours, they think that it is spring and summer ..... so mating season.
Parrots in captivity often get too much light hours because we as humans use artificial light when it gets dark (evening).
In the wild they don't get artificial light, so if there the days become shorter, the mating urge lessens.
So make her days shorter by to cover the cage with a dark cagecover or dark blanket.
I hope I have explained it a little understandable, because my English is bad.

I'm sorry to laugh but I feel your pain, but mine is with my eclectus Venus. I'm her "mate" (she's dating me, I'm not dating her), she's regurgitated in my ear, she's tried to feed me, she offers her hiny to me and this has been going on for 9 months, for an eclectus puberty can last 18 - 24 months. How we deal? I lowered the carbs in her food, do not free feed, she gets meals 2 times a day, a snack and some treats. She is not allowed to roam freely because she tries to claim a nest area. She gets up with me in the morning, we do our routine, and she she begins getting randy, I put her in her cage, tell her no first, then I'll get her out 10 mins later and repeat. I do not touch her beak, back, chest, even her toes, it stimulates her so right now the only touching is her feet standing or walking on me. I hope that doesn't upset you, like the 9 month part. We take it day by day, patience is important.

Thanks Taw5106. Those are some excellent ideas. My only issue is, when shes "in the mood" its very difficult to get her back in her cage, she refuses to get off of me. Im definitely going to try all of your advice though. If you think thats funny then youll really love this.. Yesterday I was trying to take a shower, all of the sudden i heard wings flapping. I looked up and there she was, standing on the shower curtain rod, regurgitating on me, while im showering!! I couldn't even believe it!

I bow down to most loved parront! Sorry for seeing the humour in this but wow, that takes everything!
When Nigel (or any of my birds) has tried to show me how much I'm loved with regurgitating, I walk away and stay away for a bit. I also limit shoulder time and don't offer limitless cuddles and scritches, as difficult as that is. It has always worked, although they always try to revive the behaviour when hormones kick in. Rinse and repeat.

Definitely some great advice already given. Decreasing daylight hours, as well as foods high in sugars, carbs and fats will usually help. Also, keep in mind that you are only 2 weeks in. It's possible that she is simply in the midst of a hormonal upsurge at the moment. Meaning that it might taper off in another few weeks... or maybe another month or two.
Tracey (Taw5106) is dealing with something different from a seasonal upsurge. Her Venus has just entered puberty and is dealing with these feelings and urges for the first time. So she's overwhelmed and the period is somewhat prolonged. (Think hormone addled teenagers who often bear little resemblance to the sweet kids they were previously. It affects some teens differently than it does others.)
Btw, your shower ambush story was hilarious! Wow! You seem to have impressed the living heck out of her! Hahaha!
