Quaker Parrot- Charlie
Hello everyone. My Quaker parrot, Charlie, recently starting doing this today and it is concerning me. Can anyone please tell me if he is okay? I'm panicking a bit right now. Is this normal? The room is nice and warm and he has been in good health up until what ever this is started.

How old is Charlie? That looks like a mating behavior to me.

It's a begging behavior then....I handfed my RIP Quaker when he was a baby....he used to do that....

Charlie appears to be entering puberty. He's feeling a little randy and has decided to court you. Congratulations :) Just be careful not to encourage the behavior by paying extra attention to him when he does it.

It could be, BUT it also could be a begging behavior!!!! 6 months is still pretty young, not saying that couldn't happen, but it depends. Is Charlie even make any sort of noise at all when he does it, cause in the video he's not making much...

Charlie is "quaking" that's were Quakers got their name, it's true look it up! LOL Ya'll so silly

Henpecked is right. What do you know, learn somethin' new everyday :)

Quaker Parrot Information

"The Quaker Parrot gets their name from their unusual behavior which looks like they’re quaking and shaking. In reality this head bobbing and shaking behavior is quite normal."

I shouldn't laugh, your right, learn something new everyday. It was ...Kinda funny though.

I didn't know that either very cool infor thanx Hen. =)

Hey, at least I can use the excuse that quakers are illegal here in Pa so I've never had a chance to work with them :) lol

:) My senegal Buzzy does that...he's almost 8 months old. It seems like a hormonal mating thing. Buzzy does not do this with my son or my boyfriend, just me. I have read that you're supposed to just ignore this behavior and not encourage it. When Buzzy does this I just look away and after a minute he stops and goes back to normal. Giving him his favorite bird toy distracts him when he's doing that too.

That's definitely a quaking Quaker! That's what a baby Quaker does when begging for food, or sometimes just a little attention. As they get older, Quakers typically grow out of the quaking behavior, so enjoy it while Charlie's still young.

Wow! I got a new wrinkle in my brain!

Another quaking bird would be conures, I see conures do that more often then my Quaker before....

Awww! Puck's courting is much different, haha.

Both my conure and amazon do it to beg for attention or whatever it is they want. Sometimes the conure starts doing it when she wants her cage covered at night. It is similar to what baby birds do to get their parents to feed them. If you've ever watched a baby bird about to be fed by a breeder, you will laugh at how much it begs.

Apparently neither of my birds have grown out of it, lol!
