Forever in my heart. Sunny the Corella
Well.
Yesterday morning I saw a Gumtree ad that caught my eye due to the dirty cage and sad baby ā€˜tiels. Well I messaged the guy.. he had one left. About 8 weeks old. Well I went to take a look as I entered the small garden shed the smell of mouse ammonia was strong, as well as the obvious wood dust from machinery and countless bottles of chemicals It was clear that was no place to raise baby birds. The cage that this poor lonely baby was in, was absolutely filthy. And pip was just sitting on all the poo and old food.. shivering. There was no way I was leaving him there.
The whole drive home Pip was constantly shaking, he can’t keep stable and he wobbles all over the place. He also has glue in his wings which didn’t help.
I knew straight away there was something wrong with him. We didn’t get home until 7.30. So I left him to sleep after giving him food and water.
First thing this morning I booked him a vet appointment as he was still an absolute Wobbly state.
Saw the exotic/bird vet this afternoon and sadly it’s not looking good for poor little Pip. He *thinks* pip may have a neurological problem and the prognosis isn’t promising.
It could also be due to poor nutrition, vitamin and mineral deficiencies. As the seed he was feeding them was awful quality and stinks of mice.
But he said his got the best chance with me so was happy to give him the weekend after receiving an antibiotic injection and oral medication for me to give him twice a day.
I fear he isn’t going to last the night but we can hope.

He’s had a great appetite all day which is the only promising sign! he ate for almost the whole 1 hour journey to the vet!

Here he is on the drive home from his hellhole yesterday in his little travel cage..

Looking perky this morning.. (wasn’t perky 2 minutes before or 2 minutes after, he’s very up and down!)

And these photos show how he is most of the time acting very sick.

He can almost totally stop trembling when he is on me, he settles very quickly and falls asleep. Whereas in his little cage his wings are spread and he is always trembling and can’t settle.

Also, don’t worry I’m not letting him anywhere near Percy and washing my hands before I do anything with either of them.

Poor baby bird :(

Oh my word, poor little Pip, but THANK YOU for rescuing the little thing. People make me so MAD!! Please keep us updated on your beautiful rescue xx

Hannah, once again, you're a hero! Little Pipsqueak is gorgeous. Sending prayers and healing thoughts from across the globe. I hope this poor baby pulls through. If there's any chance, it's with you. If he doesn't, at least he gets to know what loving care is, if only for a little while. You are truly an amazing person!

I'm not a vet, but it did occur to me that maybe a lot of his shivering and trembling is because he feels dizzy, unbalanced and scared. Perhaps, once he gets some decent food, water and medicine, he'll feel better and improve? He looks so vulnerable, poor little Pip. I'm sure we're all sending our best healing thoughts tonight. XX

It’s always surprising to me how fragile yet how resilient baby birds can be. Pip’s prospects are certainly much improved now that he’s receiving your love and care, I sure do hope the poor little bloke pulls through!

I'm FINALLY paying attention to your threads and seeing what an amazing avian person you really are! That is the sweetest looking little guy you have there, I have a weakness myself for the whiteface mutation....I have two myself. Buzz (male) and Auzzie (female.) My wife and I both took in a little female rescue. Her name is Lou lou and she has a deformed wing. The breeder wanted to throw her away since he couldn't sell her and nobody wanted her so we took her in and she has thrived AND.....actually flys as good as the rest of the flock, she just has to flap a little harder. LOL!

Thank you everyone for you kind words and wishes xx

Thanks Trish! Unfortunately it’s more than feeling dizzy or scared. The vet said his constant trembling is almost seizure like :(
But I’m definitely hoping that good food, water, medicine and love will improve his current condition. All we can do is try, of course I’m going to be heartbroken if he doesn’t make it, but I will have comfort in knowing I tried and he didn’t die in that awful place all alone.
But, staying positive.. I’ll see him in the morning:D

Ah that’s lovely of you to say, thank you! I’m a learning avian but I seem to be learning the hard way that’s for sure lol!
He has got a totally adorable little face hasn’t he! Buzz, Aussie and Lou Lou all sound gorgeous. Unbelievable what most backyard breeders are like I don’t get how they can get away with half the stuff they do. Glad Lou Lou found the perfect home

If anyone can save this little on, it's you, Hannah.

It's going to take a good two weeks for the much improved diet to show its change. The medication, commonly three to four days.

Any idea in the type of glue, if it's a wood glue, water commonly breaks it down. But IMHO, I would wait until she stabilizes prior to washing her deep enough to begin working on the glue. Misting can help to get the dust off her, but target small areas, as a deep cleaning would likely cause her more problems as she struggles to maintain body temperature.

Watch her breathing closely, any indication of crackles and /or tail pumping and its rush to the Vet time.

Sounds like a bunch of environmental issues impacting her.

Rooting for the little guy! At 8 week sold it is likely poorly bred, likely related birds allowed to breed and they end up with super poor quality chicks. His genetics may no be helping him at all but I'm so glad he's in your hands now.

Heartbreaking and inspiring! Heartbreaking to know this person will just continue to treat innocent creatures this way! And, inspiring to know what a difference you just made in this little one’s life!

1.44am I woke up and couldn’t hear him (usually can hear his tremors vibrating on the cage) of course I was laying there thinking he’d gone. Got up to check and he was quitely having a drink :D I can now hear he’s eating seed.
Back to sleep I go!

Yes it’s going to take a long time for improvement.. but at the moment we are just taking it day by day.

Not sure what glue it is, I Wasn’t planning of trying to remove it until I see a big improvement to his health.

I was concerned about his breathing yesterday which was another reason I booked a vet appointment as soon as the practice opened.

He’s seen the best and only Bird specialist in my town :)

Hannah, you are my hero. Sweet, precious little Pip could not be in better hands, and I am so glad to hear he was drinking when you checked on him!
I'm so glad he is feeling love for the first time in his life, and am sending healing prayers his way.

Hannah, once again your oversized heart and loving nature bring rescue to poor Pip and earn deep respect with admiration from your fans!

Hellhole indeed, what sort of monsters raise birds in such an environment?

With hope and luck the symptoms of tremulousness are dietary and environmental, who knows what noxious crap Pip has inhaled and ingested. A few weeks of good food and love might do wonders.

Oh Hannah you’re so amazing. I’m hoping against hope the Pip makes it, and if not I’m so glad he’s known your love and care at the end.

You are my hero.

He is adorable and thank you (again) for caring...IDK if I missed it, but are you keeping him quarantined from your other bird?

Yes I’m not letting him anywhere near Percy. And I don’t use anything of Percys for Pip. And also throughly washing my hands before I do anything for Percy.

8 am PERCY IS ALIVE AND WELL AND NOT SHAKING MUCH!! :D

This is very positive news!!!! Come on lil Pip, you’ve got the whole world pulling for you!!!!
