Please send healing vibes to my new addition. Little Baby Pipsqueak.

Terribly distressing to know Pip is having seizures. We all know you are doing the very best for him, hope he survives the episodes. Please hang in there precious little Pip!

The man who had this bird should be charged with animal abuse, makes me so angry to see these poor animals in these situations. I’m so glad that if these are Pip’s last days, he will at least be in the arms of someone who truly cared for his well being. Still praying that he makes it through these hard days. Thank you so much for caring for this little one!

Thank you everyone!

Well after almost 5 hours of him being practically out of it, laying on his side with a floppy head due to terrible seizures..

At 10pm Pip finally managed to come around without setting of another episode.

It’s now 3am and Pip is still sitting up looking out his cage/sleeping.

I can’t believe the fight in this bird!!

I’m not sure what to do about the vets today. The bird specialist won’t be there, he’s not back in until Tuesday. Do I take him to the vets to see a regular vet which in my opinion is risky (I’ve seen lots of their vets for my g’pigs, there’s only 3 I trust!). Or depending on how Pip is in the morning..wait until the next day. Hmm.

Wow! He's a fighter for sure. As far as the vet, I would ask yourself, am I doing everything I can for pip, and is the available vet likely to recommend anything more than what I'm already doing? We can't answer that for you, since we're not there, and don't know the vets involved, but I'm sure you'll do what's best for him. Hang in there little one!

You need to consider the stress involved wit a visit to the vet.

He would not have made it this far if not for you Hannah. Obviously he is a fighter! BB is chirping PIP!PIP!PIP!

Still sending all the best vibes to you and Pip.

The stress of a vet could cause more or not-- my bird has seized. Just try to keep him as calm as possible---it is logical for you to take him in, but know that it could also cause more seizures in an already sick bird. It's a gamble for sure.

Happy dance for you that Pip is fighting for life!

The vet is a tough one. Chances are you wouldn’t be satisfied with the visit today and would want to go again on Tuesday, doubling the stress on Pip. If you’re able to spend the day with him today and keep him close and as quiet as possible that may be best.

God bless you young Master Pip for being so brave, and you Hannah for being so strong! Wish I was there to help you, we could take it in shifts to care for him :)

I’m laying in bed and I can hear him eating his millet.

I’ll evaluate him when I get up and get him out and decide what to do about the vet. I’d much prefer to just go Tuesday especially as fridays vet bill was $250 and I can only imagine the next one will be more as I want to have blood tests done etc. We are going to struggle to pay for all this but I’m not giving up easy on this little lad, going to do everything I can because he’s fighting so hard!

I have bird vitamin drops you can put in the water, shall I syringe a small diluted amount to him? I really want to get some vitamins in him incase this is half his problem especially as he’s obviously malnourished. OR can I blend a little bit of kale, peas and apple and water together and make a paste and syringe fed him with that? Or is that a no no?
Just trying to think of things I can do today to gain his strength especially if I’m not going to the vet today

I wouldn't put them in his actual water...that can increase bacterial growth and prevent drinking. Vitamins can be dangerous if they over-dose, but you know him best. It's a tough call, but maybe a few in a dropper---just make sure you DO NOT overdo it and that he doesn't aspirate them.

Thanks noodles, yes that was my thinking. I’ve never agreed with adding stuff to animals water. I can’t even remember why I have these drops, I think I bought them when I had the sick ‘Too and wanted to do the same thing, syringe a very small diluted amount for a vitamin boost.
I’ll be careful do only give teeny amounts to ensure he swallows it.

I’d probably divide the dosage up into two or three smaller doses and mix it with some mushed up food and feed it throughout the day - I think you’re still feeding a bit of formula aren’t you? Definitely not in the water for the reasons Noodles stated.

You don't want to overload his system. Putting additives into his food isnt' necessarily what he needs right now. I'd be guided by your vet (phone?). I do know that victims of malnutrition are fed a tiny maintenance diet because their bodies' abilities to metabolise food, including trace elements like vitamins has been harmed. You're already giving him what he needs in the form of a good diet. Try to be patient and let it work. The little sweetheart is so strong! He's fighting and let's all hope he wins! XX

Thanks everyone for the advice!
I’m waiting for the vets to open to find out If bird vet is in today.
Pip is currently sitting on my lap eating seed. He is trembly still, I really would hate for him to seizure again today.

Glad Pip has a bit of respite from the seizures. Tough call for the choice of vet, he needs a knowledgeable doc for this visit. There are meds to control seizures, but good diagnosis may require lab tests to determine deficiencies. In some cases the cause(s) are never found, but treatment can begin.

Here's a really good article on seizures: https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/seizures-in-birds

Some causes, scroll down a bit more than 1/2 for birds: https://www.dvm360.com/view/seizures-exotic-pets-proceedings

Thanks Scott!

Pip is doing really well today. I’ve had him out all day. He’s preening, eating, sleeping and chatting :)

We have a vet appointment 9.30 am tomorrow morning

Wonderful news, but I dare not say too much in case I jinx him.

You go little dude! :35:
