Okay, so I have already posted on here once and I am only returning out of pure desperation! If any one could please help me or share similar stories, that would be greatly appreciated!!
So as I wrote before, I have a 9 year old Senegal parrot. He is my best friend, and he is constantly with me. During the past few months his waste has been extremely polyuric. He was fed a seed diet for years but now eats pellets as well as fresh fruits and veggies. I understand that this causes polyuria but it should only continue for an hour to two hours after ingesting the fruits and veggies. However, it doesn't, instead it persists for the entire day. His "morning bomb" tends to be quite normal, but the rest is not. He also has been sleeping a lot more during the day. He also drinks a lot of water now which is commonly seen with polyuria.
Last week, I made a vet appointment to get blood drawn to test his organ function and blood levels (glucose, calcium, etc..). Being that he is so small, that's the only blood work they could do (mini avian panel). The vet called on Friday to tell me that the lab didn't send the paper indicating a senegals normal blood work. He told me that everything appears fine but would call Monday(tomorrow) to confirm.
With that being said, I feel as if I have reached a dead end, I don't know what else to do. I know toxicosis is a possibility, but the vet doesn't seem to want to peruse anything else. Not to mention, I live in the big island of Hawaii and he is the only avian vet available.I dont think it could be toxicosis however because of how long this has been going on. Can toxicosis even last two and a half to three months without killing a parrot??
Please, if any of you have advice or similar stories, I am all ears. I have been researching like an absolute maniac!!! Please help
Thanks!
