So I was at the beach and I saw this poor crab being washed around in the waves. It looked alive, but was clearly struggling. I didn't know how to help it. So I picked it up and took it out, to move it somewhere more peaceful. The poor guy was dead :(. His legs were just hanging. He couldn't walk or anything. I feel kinda guilty for not doing something earlier. He is still in the same place, lifeless.

Sorry I just had to vent that out.

I hope this is not a stupid question, but do crabs play dead?

I honestly don't know if this crab is still alive. I'm stupid when I comes to these animals.

Yep, unfortunately it work that way. Animals die and get eaten. It's just natural. We don't live forever.
Actually, I disagree on a minor point. We DO live forever! Just not in this present form!
Whether you are a vegan, or a meat eater, you need to kill to live!

Yes I believe that we can live forever, just not physically, otherwise we'd overpopulate!(although we probably do already.

Yeah. Plants have lives too. We have to eat other species in order to survive.

I doubt that getting to the poor crab any sooner would have made a difference. It's usually too late if they are already floating like that:(
It was so kind of you to try to rescue him.

The poor thing still had some live before I took it out. I saw it using its pinchers. I watched it helplessly for minutes not knowing what to do. Well, there's nothing I can do about it now.

I'm not aware of crabs can play dead.
But I know a crab will amputate its own claw from its joint and run, if a predator grab it by its claw.
