I don't know if this bothers anyone else but I always worry after going to the avian vet. A lot of other birds have been there and am I the only one who worries about what the sick birds have left behind to be brought home with us?
My daughter took a cat in for shots to her vet and evidently brought home a germ that made the dogs sick, then took the dog in for a virus that was going around confirmed by the vet that he had started seeing this 2 weeks prior and the day the dog went in sick he had been seeing those cases the entire day. That is why I really hate going to the vet unless it is an emergency. Has anyone else worried about that?

It is on my mind for vet trips but getting the animal checked out for a wellness exam is much more important.

I've often wondered the same thing. I use to dread taking my baby children in for there regular check-ups because there was ALWAYS coughing, snotty nosed kids, (there for a reason), and yep!, my baby would be sick with a cold within the week.

I know it is the same with us.....you take someone in for a doctor's visit and next week you come down with something. My kids when they were young were no exception. I try to avoid going to doctors myself.
I swear by olive leaf extract and it keeps all of us healthy. It acts like an antimicrobial, anti fungal etc. Clears up bladder infections etc without antibiotics if you start taking it as soon as you start the infection.
I have wondered if it would be safe for birds as a maintenace. Trying to find some research on it.

I will have to look into olive leaf extract. Thank you!

Olive leaf extract......I prefer the Seagate brand. It is a little pricey I used to get it on Amazon but there is a seller on ebay that sells buy 1 get 1 free. Allhealthtrends is user name just type in seagate olive leaf extract and she will come up. If you order from their website you will pay full price but on ebay she sells it this way. I am never without it. It has been a year and a half since I have had to go to dr with bladder infection and I could never get one cleared up with antibiotics so it kept coming back. Hope this info helps you have to get one that doesn't have fillers. I have had good luck with seagate brand and won't change.

Certain exposures to virus and bacteria can make out body recognize the intruder to our system and hopefully fight them before it become worst. For me, it is better to have a little exposures once in a while rather than not being exposed at all.

I'm interested to find out if olive leaf extract is ok for birds too. If not, is there an alternative? I heard colloidal silver is a miracle substance for birds but I don't want my conure to turn blue lol.

This post got me worried about Boomer's first doctor visit when he turns 5 or 6 months old...

I am trying to get info on Olive leaf extract for birds. I contacted Seagate and it has been used on horses dogs and cats but hasn't been tried on birds. They have never had any adverse effects. My only concern would be the dosage amount. I would be totally okay with giving it to my bird. I guess a few sprinkles over their fresh veggies would probably do the trick. I swear by this stuff and would not be afraid for my Gcc to eat it. The seagate brand as well as some others do not have fillers. It is pure olive leaf extract.
So if they can eat olives and olive leaves there should be danger IMO.

As far as the Colloidal silver I use that as well. It is great on cuts or scrapes. I would use that in a situation like that.

I try to go natural every chance I get because drugs have so many side effects.
I am not a freak about it but always have 3 items in my arsenal of natural products.

1. Olive leaf extract --I purchase from allhealthtrends on ebay
also the seagateproducts.com website
2. Silver hydrosol-- I purchase from helpingamerica.com
3. Manuka Honey--manukahoneyusa.com

Manuka honey and a bandaid will stop an infection in its track. It has to be a good brand as well. There again there are many knockoffs. I purchase from manukahoneyusa.com
It has actually been approved in the US for the burn units. It comes from an area in New Zealand.
I am not trying to promote anyones site but I have found the purest product and best prices from these. You can do your own research on that if you prefer. Just wanted to help the ones interested that are interested.
