Question about DIY Toys

Hopefully this is OK in this forum - I am buying a bunch of materials to DIY most of my bird's toys because otherwise they are $$$. I am looking at some muffin liners on Amazon. They say natural, even the colored ones, saying food-grade natural...but they state this: "Just like our standard size liners, these mini muffin liners are made from thick, greaseproof paper". Wondering what is used to make it greaseproof and if it would be safe for a bird to play with? It does also state this:

• Non-stick, Easy-release
• Made by Food-Safe Greaseproof Paper
• No Smells, No Poison, No Leaking Dyes
• High Temperature and Baking Resistance

Bird safe is getting harder to find. Non stick has me hesitant. Most nonstick coatings aren't bird safe. I started using coffee filters.

Maybe you should use something different. Who knows what it all means for a bird who might swallow some. On the other hand, paper that we consider safe is manufactured using chemicals and we cant avoid everything.

"Food safe" generally means it is "handling, preparation and storage of food in a way to minimize the risk of foodborne illnesses" (AI response to what food safe means).
"Food grade" means "the materials are safe to come in direct contact with food and won't leach harmful substances or chemicals". (AI definition). It safe when used as intended. I doesn't mean you can eat it. Tell the birds that!

Thank you - that was what I was worried about. I will look into the coffee filters as suggested above!
