Hey everyone!

I have a question about artificial christmas trees. I know that time of year is nearly upon us, (and that will be extra special for us as Benji will be spending his first festive season with us!) and I was after some advice about whether artificial trees in the same room as a parrot are ok.

This may seem daft, and apologies if it has already come up on the forum, but seeing as Benji's cage is in the living room and that is where the tree would also be, I don't know if there is a general health risk. We have a 6ft tree with fake snow on the ends of the branches. We are considering getting a much smaller tree, minus fake snow if this is a bit risky for Benji's health (plus, he loves flying and landing up high, so I am also concerned that he may fly into the tree and struggle to get out).

Any thoughts? Many thanks in advance,:green1:

I'm also interested in this answer. Hopefully I'll be getting a conure after the Christmas period but I'd like to know for the future.
I would have thought though that they're best kept separate, although each bird to their own as some may not care for a tree fake or real.

I'm more worried about the lights! Mango's a chewer, he'll wrap his beak around anything!

If he's just in the room with the tree, than no, it's not harmful. If he's going to be playing in it, well, a parrot just shouldn't be allowed IN a artificial or live tree. Just too much trouble for them to get in with ornaments, lights, potentially toxic metal ornament hangers... Won't be of much help this year, but this is why I strongly recommend people train their birds the difference between "yours" and "mine" and make things like seasonal decor a "mine" thing (i.e. if you have feathers, you best stay away!):)
