Remington~ GW Macaw
Ollie/Olivia~ CAG
so i have a quick question~ remington has been putting his foot out towards me~ I think he may be asking me to pick him up, but when i try to he only puts one foot on me....i have only held him twice since we have had him(9/5/10) and that was 2 weeks ago, then i had to go out of town for 5 days, and it seems like we went back to square one..what do you think?

Is Remington your macaw? Because, from my experience with my conure I have to put my conure on the floor, or on a perch, and with my finger I tickle his feet till he raises it up then gently slide your finger under it, and raise up your hand slowly and he should either take his foot off, or put the other foot on your finger, talking to him while tickling also helps. Hope this helps.;)

Auggie likes to 'hold hands' occasionally. He'll put one foot out toward me, but he does not want to step up. I'll just gently hold his foot, and then he looks happy for a while.

Fred does the same....I think he just wants "closeness" but wants to stay where he is.

That is a good way to teach your bird how to wave.

he does wave when i say hi, but the reaching out is different...i think i need to find someone to come over and help me...

Nah, you don't need help bud, For if someone goes over there and tries to make Revington step-up it won't b you doing it, so in my opinion he needs to feel a bond with you, which I bet he does allready, but like the few posts above quoted they maybe want to be where they are at but enjoy the hand holding. It is nothing to rush through to get him to step up, and if its your macaw I would be guessing start with your fore-arm step ups or if hes feet can get a firm grasp on your fingers that is fine too, try putting a snack on your hand so he can see it means no harm. Hope this helps.
