Quick squawking question

If I reach to open my parrots cage to let her out and she squawks at me, should I just walk away quietly or ignore the squawk and open the cage?

Very open question to several possibilities.
Are you communicating to your Parrot as you 'begin' approaching the cage? It is important to be actively communicating that you're coming into your Parrot's room or area, and what your plans are, etc...
A Parrot that is displaying fear and therefore squawking in fear or warning is very different from a Parrot that is squawking a welcome, hi, good to see you, etc...

It feels very much like a “piss off” sort of squawk. She leans into it. She’s in our main living room area. I was already in the room and knew I would be around for a bit so went to open the cage for her to come out.

Sounds like it may be a defensive squawk. Might be a little territorial aggression over the cage? Without seeing and hearing it is hard to be definite. Could be several things. Just chat at your bird as you approach as suggested by SailBoat. It should help even if the bird knows you are there.
