I recently bought an oil filled radiator heater from Walmart and I’m hesitant to use it because I heard it could have coatings on it that are dangerous to birds. The model is CY2601LL-7W, can anyone please confirm if it’s safe? I tried contacting the manufacturer but never heard back.

SHould be OK, the heating element is contained within the oil not outside.

The oil filled radiators are generally considered one of the safest options. By design, they don't get as hot as some of the other kinds, and aren't hot enough to off gas coatings and such. I suppose a good initial cleaning and running it for a bit somewhere away from the birds couldn't hurt for piece of mind.

We did have them for a couple of rooms in my house that are kind of chilly for the birds, and they seem to be working great. We ran them a bit before we had them in with the birds, but we've seen no ill effects. (I'm glad, because Budster doesn't like being cold, and my living room would have to be 90 degrees for my office to be warm enough for him.)
