The greatest dangers 'depending on the age of the home' is the presents of lead in the old paint. Have your house checked before you let anyone scrape you home's exterior. If you have lead paint, you should consider moving out while that paint is removed. In most States, removal of Lead paint requires a 'special' Contractor.
If you are using a Paint Contractor and prior to receiving or obtaining quotations, assure that they aware you have Parrot(s) and that you want them to use paints that are Pet Safe / Bird Safe.
FYI: Best that you go to Paint Store that sells to Paint Contractors as their main customers. Have their staff educate you on the different paints and what will provide the longest life and be the safest for you and your Parrots. NOTE: Your Paint Contractor should be using first a 'full cover' primer and than a finish paint. Yes, there are one coat paints, but it is still a little early to know how effective they are in an Outside application. A good Paint Contractor will recommend the use of Oil Base Paints on high contact areas like doors and door trim and the top of railings. Everything else is Water Based.
Moving out or being out while they are in fact painting is generally recommended. Especially if it is a large crew that will be painting in volume. A single person, not as likely as long as the windows are closed when painting on that side or sides.
Most Paint Contractors will remove the doors and place them on 'horses' while using an Oil Based Stain. Since this is done away from the house it is generally less of a problem. Location and wind direction is what is important. If you have a place you can take your Parrot(s). Just do so, better safe than sorry.
