So I have ran into a problem with Fred. It seems he has grown an liking for scabs. Being it is mosquito season I have a few on my legs and he will instantly go and try to grab a scab. I've tried to curb this by putting him away or yelling ouch but he has gotten more and more persistent with it. If I'm not paying attention for a second and he is within range he rips it off. Its really getting annoying and starting to hurt as after the fact he goes back again and again. I'd hate to cage him up until I'm all healed up but it's looking more and more like I may have to keep Fred at bay until I am scab less.

Has anyone else ran into a similar gross/weird situation with there birds, and what did they do to stop this from happening?

He is helping get those nasty things off you! Try a bandaid, if anything he will go for them and give you time to say no and put him down.

yes my U2 does that to me!! I lay a towel over my lap to keep hi from my legs and try to distract him with training or food from the ones on my arms its a constant battle though.

My Hunter is an expert scab AND skin tag remover. :54:

Most of the time she's SO gentle that I hardly feel it...unless she yanks out a skin tag, now THAT pinches a bit...and bleeds afterwards. :o

Birds are so weird. LOL. I guess I'll just stick with pants for now, even though its a little hot.

Any solutions for this? Duke decided it's his new hobby.

Yep. Scabs, and oh, my son's pimples, too. Ewwww!

Our 'tiels and plummie love to pick scabs off. The plummie likes to bite me then come back to lick the blood :) I have solar keratoses (skin cancers- a redhead in a sunny climate) and they go for those, too.

O yes! My husband has a lot of skin tags and Dominic just loves harvesting them for him. I'd never heard a grown man squeal until Dom went to work on hubby: it's so entertaining! The Beaks don't, as a rule: their weakness is zippers and buttons. If a single zipper or button is in the room where they are, they will seek it out and bring it to a quick ruination with just a few strokes of the beak. It can be embarrassing when family comes to visit and I have to warn people to hide their buttons and zipper tags. Several times now, Barney has swooped on my brother-in-law and snapped the buttons on his shirt before anyone could stop him. Honestly, he's like the arrow that flieth in the dark! (Barney, not Warren, my B-I-L). One thing the Beaks do like is to root out the handful of silver hairs I have among the dark ones. I don't mind that one little bit! :)

not really much you can do except keep the bird away/distracted from the scabs.

i have a scar on the back of my neck which a lot of my smaller birds bite and try and rip out (the bigger ones dont care for some reason). only thing i can do is remove them when they're trying to rip it out
