Hello

My mom has had her mealy amazon for 20 years now and Margret HATES new things. I bought her a rope perch and she completely freaked out when we had her go back in and had to take it out because it was too scary for her. She is also very scared of new toys. She is a really nice girl, she is tame and loves to get attention, but I want to spoil her and I can't because of her fear. We are her second home I believe and I will probably inherit her so I want her to be happy forever. What do you guys do for birds that don't like change in their cage? Obviously I'll leave her be, but she has 1 perch that she loves about about 6 toys. Any added toys get the eyeball for a month, and the perch......well she was flailing all around the bottom when that was added.

Hello and welcome to the Forum :)

Try putting a new toy or perch near her Cage for a while, so she can see it and then after a couple of days try introducing into her Cage again!

Okay thanks, my mom just takes it away from her when she flips out. It was fine when she is on top of the cage, but when she is put in, the problems begin. 2 feet away from it it "okay"

Yes just put it a couple of feet away, so she can see it clearly and leave it there for a few days before trying to put in the Cage!

hello an welcome :) and its so nice to hear someone saying inheriting a bird! i have told my son, he could inherit the nut lol

pics please, just to add on to advice from wenz, when margret is watching handle or play with her new toys.

Yes, I have always read that if a bird is fearful of something, to put it where they can see it, but are not scared of it. Then, once they are comfortable with that distance, move it a bit closer, then a bit closer, etc, until finally it's in the cage and they are fine with it.

Good luck, I hope everything works out!

I love Mealy Amazons! Pics would be more than awesome. ;)
