Hey, I brought home a beautiful young white faced cockatiel yesterday. I know he is scared because he is in a new home and doesnt know what to do. He will come up on my finger and sit on my shoulder with no problem but when he is in the cage he just sits and doesnt move. I havent even seen him eat yet but i was at work for a few hours today so maybe he ate then. Any advice on how to make him more comfy and should i start his "step up" training now or in a few days? Any info would be good. This sint my first cockatiel either. I have 3 other ones at my dog grooming shop i own and they are awesome. I love cockatiels =-) :white1:

Congrats on your new bird. With any new bird you need to move slowly. The bird is in a new home and cage with a new guardian. Totally stressful for the bird. Just give the tiel some more time to adjust to you and for the bonding process to take place. What did you name the bird?

yes, time and patience is needed to help your bird feel more secure. And we also love pictures!!!

Welcome and congrats on your new baby. I always recommend weighing a new bird just to make sure it's weight is stable or increasing and it's eating. Try and do this at the same time each day eg in the morning before breakfast. Also make sure the cage is up against a wall and maybe cover the 2 sides with a towel just so he feel safe and secure. Most all give it time. Please keep us posted on his progress

Hey thanx for the info. I havent figured out a name for him yet lol and i will def have pictures by the end of this week. This birdie is so cute and i really hope it warms up to me like my other ones have. =-)

If he's pooping, he's eating. Spend time letting him get to know you. This is a really big change for him. Birds are much more sensitive than dogs or cats.

I would say this is very normal for any new bird, he will come around in his own good time, patience is a virtue as they say.

Look forward to your progress reports.

Hey guys. He is doing much better. Still throws himself around a bit but is fine. He is eating now that i have seen which is great. He went in the window for the 1st time today and loves it. And i got a few picsfor u guys too.
