Hi, everyone, hope you’re doing well. Iβ€˜ve been studying parrots for a while now and have A flock of my own thsg I ckndsider my children and my best friends. Last year I based my high school science fair project off of birds, here’s the link

That project of 2021 was based off of the cognitive abilities of parrots. It was testing the intelligence of parrots and letting them perform certain tasks.
This year I’d very much like to do another parrot-related project. Please let me know if you have any ideas! Thank you!

Well, there are several areas that offer opportunities to provide clearer knowledge for the Parrot Community.

- Why Parrots' high-speed digestive system requires quality foods and just as important, a fresh healthy diet. that is not based on a single product.

- Is flight truly needed to assure a Healthy Cardiovascular system.

That should provide a good base!

Apollo(F): sky blue dominant pied Australian budgie
The science fair project I'm doing now is quite like this. It's training my budgies to do different things and seeing who picks it up most quickly.

Thank you so much for replying! I really like both those ideas. I could even combine the two to base the project off of parrot health and so. But how would I prove something like that in a matter of a month and less than a half?

there seems to be a steep learning curve in humans being able to read bird body language. Especially a bird warning you its going to bite. I hear all the time my bird bit me out of the blue, 99% of time I feel they mised the cues given by the bird.

But anything demonstrating bird non verbal communication would be fantastic.
Body positions, crouching, standing tall neck extended
feather position: held tight to Body, fear / hightened awareness, neutral,
raised nape feathers angry/back off
Tail flare, angry
tail wag, happy content , accomplished something
Snake neck weaving
Eyes , pinning, flashing, squinting
Flushing /blush
Feathers over beak happy relaxed
Some of the quieter communication like purrs, sigh, grumbles, grinding
Well there are so darn many things and ways tgey communicate!!

That is an awesome Idea, I LOVE it! I recently made a video on cockatiel body language as well. I completely agree with you, there are warnings before birds bite, modt humans just aren’t educated enough to understand the bird body language that comes along with it. Anyways, I adore the idea. I’m just wondering what would I be proving though?

Science Project: investigates the effects of changes or answers the question β€œWhy?”
Engineering Project: solves a need or problem; includes measures of success.

I'm unsure what requirements are needed for projects. But I quoted this example above.

So could providing a non verbal communication guide solve a need? Or problems with keeping parrots?

Or why bites happen missing cues?

Sorry best I've got
But love to hear what you choose next

When I was in high school, I used my cockatiel in a research project. My boyfriend drilled four holes partway through a single board to use as food cups and my teachers collected milk carton caps in different colors for me. I tested to see if the cockatiel could learn to get seeds under a certain color of cap.
