It depends on their age for one. Coloring for another. Males feeds the females during courting, BUT if there's no females present, they try to feed other males too.
As youngsters all their cere coloring looks the same, but you can sex them by the shape of their nostrils. It's been so long since I bred them, one is oval while the other one is more round. As the males mature they turn deep blue while the female either stays pink or light blue. When the females are ready to mate, their cere turns crusty brown. Depending on their coloring, the males can have pink cere because of their mutation. The cere coloring is more for solid color mutations like green, blue, gray, etc. If you get into pieds and such, the cere is most likely pink. You can also sex them by the way they act, I can anyway since I bred so many of them before.
