Sick Lovebird - Severly loosing it's feathers.

One of my two lovebirds is loosing its feathers (severe case). The pet shop suggested we use this:

but it's not helping at all. Has anyone seen anything like this before? Please help!

You should take him to the vet and have him tested for PBFD, it is highly contagious and don't let any other birds come into contact with your birds from now on until you get the test results. Plus you need to always wash your hands before handling other birds.

I would have that bird in to see the vet as soon as you can get him in. The vet will likely need to do a couple tests to find out what is wrong. Some bird diseases are contagious to other birds and you want to care for your lovie as well as protect any other birds that come into your home from catching something serious.

My thougts exactly. If it's not the other lovebird, it very well could be PBFD.

If your lovebird has it, it is possible for your lovie to live a healthy and fulfilling life with PBFD. However, it's just as likely to cause a slow and painful death that deteriorates the lovebirds body over time.


I'm sorry if this does not sound great... honestly, it isn't. You need to find an avian vet and get some proper testing done. Please do not go off the advice of a pet store!

unfortunately this little one needs a vet. the petstore medicine is not going to work for this.
