Skye update

Skye FINALLY came out of his cage today. For about 2 minutes. Holy moly, is he moving at a snails pace with this, but, he’s making progress so that is all I can ask. The new bird carrier arrived a couple weeks ago, and has been open and in sight. Here’s to hoping I can get him to the vet in the next couple of weeks! He’s also making progress with fingers which is amazing. And he’s even had some new veggies. He actually ate some carrot and some turnip. I have found that he prefers to have his veggies sticking out so he can nibble them (raw) around lunch time. This is in addition to the romaine and kale that he’s been getting in the morning and evening depending on what’s available.

He came out of the cage and that's great news! Maybe he'll venture out a little longer each time. Like people each bird is different, some just take more time.

This little guy is like a whole new bird. He’s definitely found his wings and loves to explore my daughters room. Next step is hanging his romaine lettuce in his brand new carrier. That way it’s not a fight to get him in. He can go in, munch away, and hopefully if it goes well we can start keeping him in for longer and longer each time. Hopefully by this time next month he will (finally) have his trip to the vet!

Baby steps, baby, Baby steps. Each parrot is an individual, just like children. SOme progress faster, some slower.

Skye is very slow with new things so this is going to take time. I mean...it taken this long to get him out of the cage, so for now we are just hanging the romaine in the carrier in sight. He will eventually go inside. I hope.

I also have a bird named Sky. He is an older parakeet and boy oh boy is he set in his ways. I got him from my former neighbor. He's very very stubborn. He let me know right away that he does not like being locked down in his cage. When I first got him I used to just open his cage and change his food and water every day and lock his cage back up because I didnt know anything about taking care of birds. Well that went on for about a month until one day Sky jumped up out of the cage when I opened it to give him food and water. I had a hard time trying to get him back in the cage. Then finally he got back inside his cage but only when he felt like it. I've had him now about 9 years now and now that he's gotten much older he has arthrtis. When I took him to the bird vet in my town the vet said to not worry about him getting back in his cage because he has arthritis. But my Sky is spoiled rotten. Everyday I have to put his food and water dishes on top of his cage where he sits. I also have to carry his cage back to my bedroom where he stays only when I have to go to work. He does fine while I'm at work. l also have two baby birds that I bought so that Sky would have some company. The people at the pet store told me these birds would never be able to fly because their wings had been clipped. Well its been 8 months since I brought them home and since then "King Sky" has gotten together with them and taught them how to fly. Oh my goodness.☺
