So much progress!

Hi everyone. I've spent the past week with a stinking cold but Flame has made so much progress with everything! She's getting there with the step up command. From the cage to my hand to the perch, she does automatically now, although she still gets praised. It's off the perch onto my hand to back into cage we have a problem with. She will get on my hand from perch, if she thinks she is going on my shoulder, but not back into her cage. Could it be just that she doesn't want to? Am I missing something? Yesterday I had to let her go back into her cage by herself!

We're also learning likes and dislikes with our fruit and veg too. We like cous cous and sweet potato. I'm using the I'm "eating something yummy trick" and she can't help herself but have a try! Before, anything new placed near her she would back away but now she's right in there, " what are you eating? "

I have tried peppers, sugar snap peas and carrot none of which she seems interested in.
She will take them only to drop them.

Is there anything else I can try?

Thank you JerseyWendy. I've just tried her on mashed apple and sweet potato. I'm not sure if she liked it but she did try it! She was just sat on the perch outside the cage, asked her to step up, she went to bite, not hard I said "No biting!! " so she took herself off and went into her cage, left me just standing there!!! It will have a good look at links.
Usually she just backs away from anything new, that includes new toys in her cage etc. But lately she wants to be into everything! She's changed so much.

Thank you JerseyWendy. I've just tried her on mashed apple and sweet potato. I'm not sure if she liked it but she did try it! Great news re progress with Flame and you are making great strides. Loved it when she went in after being told off.

Re the food side of things it helps to find a consistency they find agreeable. Some it's mush, some it's fine chop and others a coarse chop. Temperature can also help - Plum likes warm food - probably cos that's how mine comes lol! The apple puree can be used to encourage Flame to eat other things. Once you get into Chop properly there is so much out there and to learn. Wendy's links are a great step in that direction. Make sure you are aware of what is on the Toxic/Poisons list when you have a moment as that is also very useful background information to feeding your fid. The 'I'm eating it, so you can eat it' principle def works in your favour.

Thanks Plumsmum2005. I think I'm over the worst of this cold. Not the same as a naughty step but was SO funny watching her! I tried the warm mush apple with all little mushed sweet potato, she did try it. She's also just tried plum ( not yours lol!! ) and mango. Again she approaches It as if it's going to attack her, backs off a little then eventually tries it.

Should I be sticking with one new thing at a time, warm, mushed or room temp rather than bombarding her with lots of different foods?

Hi I think I'd keep a list of what works and add to those so apple puree and sweet pot OK so go on and add a little of another veg or fruit etc. They def get to know naughty. Mine will tell me he's been a good boy after being naughty. If you say no he squawks at me in disgust, no doubt hoping I'll change my mind?
Ps if Flame gets to like the sweeter fruits Mango etc you may not need apple puree eventually as they can take over the masking of flavours.
