I need to re-pot the yucca. Is there a preferable spoil type I should us, or is it safer to cover the soil so the birds can't get to it?

I'm also planning on a spider plant or two, and cover the soil in those might be a challenge.

Cheers!

Yuccas need very well drained soil. If it were me I’d probably mix standard potting soil with cactus soil, if not go straight for cactus soil. Will depend on the conditions you’re keeping it in. Do not use the moisture retention soil, you’ll kill it faster than anything.

Spiderplants can be grown in water only (no soil) if you'd prefer it that way. Just make sure the opening of the bowl/vase is small enough so that your bird can't drink the plant water.

Otherwise, I would just cover the soil in something so the birds can't get to them :)
