Some advice please

Hi all.

I have noticed today that Xander my Quaker Parrot is struggling to climb slightly and just doesn't seem his usual active self. He is just slower than he normally is. He will come for food still but not eating too much and he hasn't come to train all day and usually when hears the treat tub he's like lightning to the training spot. He's even dropping treats.

He was having the time of his life last night in his cage destroying his wooden climbing tower. I was actually really proud he's starting to spend hours keeping himself occupied as well as all the attention I give him.

I wander if the wood from his toy has made him ill maybe? its the first time he has chewed through anything and he got through it pretty quick.

He is hopping up on stuff, just slightly slower. His environment is wiped everyday and properly cleaned every 2-3 days so everything's always clean and safe. I have started giving him big pumpkin seeds from fresh pumpkins from Halloween but I rinsed them off with water so maybe they could be the reason? I have checked his feet, there are no wounds and he is flying still just not as much, his wings look ok too.

Id appreciate any advice please, its the first time he has been unwell x

My initial thought on this is that he is very tired after a very active, fun night as you mentioned he really enjoyed destroying his wood tower. It is always so hard to tell with these things if they're just tired from excessive activity or are actually sick. I would continue to keep a close eye on him and if it continues on into tomorrow, maybe then a call to the vet. Doesn't hurt to call for advice either.

Thanks, its just the last 4-5 hours he has been like this. This morning he was himself x

I’m no help! I just wanted to say, I hope he is his normal self soon. And itzjbean is correct and he just over did it last night.

We have just trained for 5 min and he's ate his treats and is playing. I think he is just tired because mentally he is trying to do everything he normally does. He goes straight to sleep when the lights off so ill get him down earlier tonight, get some water him and monitor him.

Salty does the same thing, a hyper active day followed by a more mellow one.

Yeah keep an eye on the little guy. I've been fooled before. Sometimes they can get sick.

Hopefully nothing more than fatigue, but do keep a close watch! Being keenly perceptive is the best way to quickly identify abnormal conditions. It then becomes a judgment call whether to seek vet care.

I mention this because many parronts are not particularly perceptive. Great job!
