Because of my troubles in posting links to Facebook posts, I couldn't show any videos.... but somebody did a video with all wild Spix's macaw vids available on the Internet and their photos:

Good to know my donation to them is being put to good use and success. Wonderful news, but we have a long way to go in re-population. But there are so many parrot species that are in almost as dire straights. I wish they all could have the same success.

I am curious to see if they leave the trackers on these guys, or if they eventually take them off. A lot of research, time, and effort went into this project.

Update on the lost macaw:

That is sad that the one macaw fell prey to a bird of prey. I figured birds of prey, or poachers would be the 2 main dangers to these spix macaws.

I am glad the other macaw that disappeared in August has joined some wild native parrots, and is still doing well.

I think birds of prey are number 1 danger. Prob poachers are dangerous too but if they were caught on illegal keeping them, they would pay very very high punishment, so I think it discourages them from doing it. All local people are informed about the program, so poaching them not knowing the species is nearly impossible.

But the signal disappeared again... We have no info on how it is doing now, everything could happen

At first I thought this was a photo of one of the released birds being attacked by a raptor. I am glad it is really two macaws getting to know each other better.

So the little Iligers macaws are babysitting the Spix macaws? How funny.
Yeah, in some of my previous posts, you can spot an Illiger's macaw among Spixs (I checked and there were such 2 photos shared + a video link with all available pics and videos of wild Spix's macaws)

I'm not surprised why this species was chosen - when there was the last Spix's macaw, it created a small flock with an Illiger's, so prob they are their closest cousins living in their area
