Don't want to say I got a bad bird but it sure seems that way.

I've been taking care of birds for a few years now, our Budgies were a bit over 10 Years old when they passed. And our Conure was acting depressed.

So this weekend we got a Lovebird to lighten the mood & give Polly(the conure) someone to talk to.

Well while at work I got a call, Sundance was at the bottom of the cage dead have no idea what happened. Was fine yesterday, eating and throwing it food around. Had to leave early this morning, but the were up on their perch sleeping.

Came home, cage droppings looked normal, food scattered about like normal, but the bird appears to of had a heart attack almost, died eyes wide open.

Only thing I can think of is we have some wild pigeons that at times fly real close to the house, and startle Polly, and maybe it scared the young bird?

So sorry for your loss
Hope you find out what the cause of death was
Be strong

so sorry for your loss! If I were you I would take your conure to the vet ASAP!! Birds are incredibly talented at hiding disease they will seem fine and them all of a sudden will die form something they were hiding! So PLEASE take your other conure to the vet and make sure he doesnt have a disease that the other bird may have brought into the home! Again so sorry he died :(

I'm so sorry to hear this!

I agree with MarciaLove, I would take your conure to the vet, just in case it was some kind of disease. Hope you find out how Sundance passed away.

RIP Sundance :(

So sorry to hear about your loss, but you should always practice quarantine!!!! It is very important so you don't make your other birds sick. A bird can look healthy but have the disease hidden within lying dormant until something such as moving into a new place, the stress can bring it out to full attack.

Were Polly and Sundance quarrantined? In separate rooms?

The had to be in the same roim due to housing restrictions, but were on opposite endd of the room. Had no contact, and had separate everything. The cage is out if the room, and Polly will be getting checked out this weekend.

You may feel better with a necropsy. My Georgie suddenly passed away and seemed perfectly healthy. Necropsy revealed...she WAS perfectly healthy, well nourished, etc, but it was blunt trauma....so perhaps something startled her and she injured herself in her cage. There was no obvious sign of trauma in her either.
In any case, i'm so sorry for your loss. It still makes me so sad sometimes when i think of my little Georgie girl and how her life was cut short after everything we tried to do to keep her healthy. Sometimes, it just happens.

How did this all work out?

I'd like to know too...

Just a follow up. Polly is still doing fine, if not. A bit more attached to me. No other birds in the flock yet.

Sorry for your loss. I'm glad your other feathered friends are doing fine and Polly is healthy!

I see it's been a while, but sorry you had to go through that, and Polly too. I hope you will find Polly a new friend when you and your wife are ready.

Blessings to you.
