My daughter is turning 16 the 18th of this month. Looking for ideals to make the day special for her but not spend a fortune.

How about arranging a makeover or model party at home for her and a group of friends? Hire a hairstylist and make-up artist, let them get all dolled up, then have a photo shoot. Set up a background, get some cool props and do glamour shots or silly shots. You can have them all bring the same thing to change into (like all black) and take a bunch of group shots, too. A bunch of teenage girls in front of the camera will find a way to make it great fun. Then you can put together photo albums using one of those online printers afterwards to save the memories. You could probably pull that off under $500. If you have a bigger budget, hire a photographer to do the pictures.

We have decided to redecorate and paint her room pink, eat at a vegetarian restaurant and invite a few friends to the lake.
