Tail rubbing

Is the rubbing of the underside of the tail with the foot particular to a male or female? I assume it is a mating gesture but my pionus is not sexed and I just wondered.

As far as I know, it is not specific to one gender or the other... in larger parrots, males and females can display the same sexual behaviors.
