Banner, Amazon Parrot
So this morning the bf and I went to the Golden Cockatoo to meet the Yellow Crowned Amazon I fell in love with. We showed up with a bunch of things that we had purchased for the Jardine's but would be too small if we took home the Amazon.

We got to the store and one of the employees took him out for us - he went willingly to the bf and said "Hello!". He was a chatty Cathy, especially to my bf. We were able to hold him and spend some time with him. The bf was impressed with how sweet he was, and we decided to take him home!

We were prepared to buy a new cage, but didn't know exactly what we would go home with, just that it had to be bigger than the 24" HQ that we have at home (that was intended for the Jardine's). I had assumed that we would take home the 32" HQ cage, around 300-350$. To my surprise, the bf decided that we should take home the King's aluminum cage instead. It's not as tall as the HQ dometop, but it's plenty wide. I'd always wanted a King's Cage but I had never thought that I'd ever have one as they are so expensive. The travel cage that we had purchased for the Jardine's is the King's cage aluminum travel carrier and I'd been quite impressed with the construction...so...without further ado..

The bf really liked the idea of the playtop, so we can have a playstand in the living room as well as one in the computer room. He's also 6'3", so no problems getting the BGG off of the playstand. Me...I'll need a stepstool!

Here are some more photos of the new guy at home...

Since he's been home, he's been chatty and content to chew on a toy and test the cage out. :) We've had him on the bottlebrush playstand we purchased for him - the bf is able to pick him up easily.

We did choose to have a DNA test done on him even though 3/3 employees at the store guessed that he is a male. We're going with the male thing and have decided to name him Banner, after Bruce Banner from the incredible hulk. He weighs a little more than a pound!

I'd like to thank everyone for their advice over the past few days. It has really helped!

Congrats on the new guy. It looks like you have him set up in style there. Those aluminum cages are pretty sharp looking. I look forward to reading more about him as your relationship develops.

Looks like he's already making himself at home and is happy to be there. :)

Woweee, handsome boy! Nice digs too! Congrats and hope your life together is amazing!

Congrats on the new baby, yet your 'foot in the door" don't let him get too attached to just the BF. Play with him and find interesting things to do when the BF is not around. Good luck

nice name, birdie, and cage! great pics, too!

such a handsome bird! great pics and cage too. you will have a wonderful like together!

I am so pleased you decided to take him home:) He is adorable.... and I love the Cage :)

love the playgym - used to have a 2 floor stands and two hanging ones for my macaws. Will order another for my current birds soon

Congrats on your new parrot! Such a beautiful Amazon! Love your cage you have for him. I love King's cages myself and two of my three cages are Kings. I have always been very curious of the aluminum cages King's makes. I am not getting any younger and my 210 pound 406 Stainless steel cage is heavy and can be hard to move around when I am cleaning it. I love this cage though and at 10 years old it still looks brand new even though I scrub the crap off of it every day.

I uploaded a pic of my cage that will be for my RFM Valentino when he comes home next weekend. This use to be my Illiger's macaw Diego's cage and even though he was a mini macaw he used every square inch of this cage as his playground. Someday if feasible I would love to replace it with a alumium cage if King's makes them that large.

I know the cage looks kind of naked. We just set it up with all new stuff for the baby RFM and after he comes home I will be able to see better where to put some more toys and perches for him.

Again congrats with bringing home your beautiful Amazon Banner!!
