So new day starts and you go about your usual routine. Make coffee, let bird/s out of cages and do your usual thing. The noise of your fids in the background only elicits a response when it either goes silent or increases in volume. Eventually this becomes so common place you start to run on autopilot and do it all without really thinking about it too much.

DANGER DANGER DANGER!!!!

This is when you will make a mistake that ,if you are lucky will only be minor or if you are unlucky like I was, ends in a major disaster.

My yellow sided GCC would come out first thing and sit on the play gym and just chill. Munching away on the seeds that they only get on the play gym.

Sitting at my computer drinking my coffee I could hear my male Bourke calling out in distress. So I look out through the glass door and see a cat on top of aviary trying to get to them.

Meanwhile Ari is quietly eating seed like he did every day.

So I jump up open the door and stick my head out screaming obscenities at the cat. I've found the remains of several birds in the yard and I don't want it getting to my Bourkes.

Scared the **** out of the cat. It took off like it's tail was on fire.

Ari was also scared. So used to him just chillin on the play gym I didn't think. I got complacent. Totally didn't think about Ari.

Ari took off and straight out the open door almost scalping me. That was two days ago. Given that it's been dropping to 1 or 2 degrees C at night I don't think I will get him back. Ads are up and I've been keeping an eye on sites that post found birds but it looks pretty bleak.

Oh Talven what a terrible accident, I'm so sorry!

I'm not sure where you've reported Ari lost already but the following link has also been very helpful...

Call every vet clinic, avian or otherwise, to alert them in case someone hands Ari over. I lost an IRN about 25 years ago and got him back the same day by posting paper flyers in every letterbox in our neighbourhood and he landed on a balcony about 2 streets over. The following link has lots of other great ideas too...

Lost birds are sometimes located weeks and months later, Ari may have even landed on a friendly looking human and been taken in out of the cold.

Sending every good wish and hope to you Talven for Ari's safe return!

I am so sorry. Please don't lose hope. I had a scare with Noodles the other day and, she was in the house, but it was very very scary. I can only imagine.

I will send thoughts/prayers/whatever in your direction.

Dont loose hope! Try your damnest to find Ari. probably stll in the neighborhood. We wish you luck !

Very sad to know Ari has escaped. Sending you my deepest wishes for a speedy reunion.

Hope you spread the word as quickly as possible to as many homes and venues as feasible. As already suggested, it is possible Ari landed in friendly environment and is currently sheltered.

First: I am so so sorry. My deepest fear. You have put out word so there is a Chance for return and I hope he comes back to you.

Second: I think you are being harsh on yourself with that word, "Complacency." One cannot live one's life Always in a state of high alert, and when instead one reacts to a situation as you did -- one Reacts. You responded quickly and appropriately to a sudden immediate danger -- which, unfortunately, allowed the next sad thing to occur.

I am so sorry and do I hope & pray he comes back to you. (Or else hoping that, at the least perhaps he finds a safe warm spot, or maybe even gets taken-in by someone else to care for him.)

I'm so sorry that you and Ari are going through this. I'll be keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm so sorry! I'm keeping you and Ari in my prayers, and hope you are reunited soon.

So sorry to hear about Ari, please let us know if we can help.

Ari was recovered by one of the locals while they were out walking their dog and returned this morning. Unfortunately he didn't make it. I think he may passed due to the very low overnight temperatures here at the moment. Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts.

I’m so very sad with yiu, I had hope. I’m so sorry for your loss
My Neptune escaped 40 days ago, I hope every day he is found, and I wish I knew if he was still alive.....,

Talven, this is such sad news, I'm so sorry for your loss. Connections lost hurt, no matter what.

Fly free on glorious wings sweet Ari, you will be forever missed.

Talven, I'm so sorry. Not the news I expected at all. My sincerest condolences. I suppose if there's anything remotely good in this, at least you know. I wouldn't wish it on anyone, but perhaps it can give you some sense of closure.

Fly free, little Ari.
