There's a New Parrot in Town

Today I brought home my new feathered friend. I've been searching for a while and hadn't found the right parrot until a few days ago at a local pet store. He was comfortable with me right away and I decided not to look any further, I found the right parrot at last. He (pending a DNA test) is just 4 months old and I haven't chosen a name yet (so far it's just "little parrot"). He made himself at home right away in the nice new cage I recently got. Within a few minutes of moving in he discovered the food dish and started eating. He explored the cage for a while then it was time for a nap. He's been eating a seed mix at the store, only about 30% pellets, so we'll be working on improving his diet and introducing fresh foods.

I haven't disclosed what kind of parrot he is in case anyone wants to try their hand at guessing. A couple hints first: In size he's somewhere between a parrotlet and a scarlet macaw (not very helpful I know, but I don't want to make it too easy) . He's not exactly the same as my previous parrots (yellow crowned Amazon, Congo African grey and standard green Quaker). Now take a guess if you care to.

I'll post a picture within the next few days, if he'll sit still long enough and not attack my camera.

I’m not even going to hazard a guess, but whoever he is he’s one lucky baby to have been adopted by you, congratulations!!!

I think he's a green cheek. Not an Amazon not a Grey and not a Quaker. Must be a conure and green cheeks are awesome.

I'll throw in a guess. Another amazon? Maybe a yellow nape or a blue front? Amazing birds and sooooo much personality. I love them. And ekkies... And greys... And.........

DonnaBudgie and AprilRobin guessed right. My new feathered friend is a cinnamon green cheeked conure. Lots of disappointments and frustration over the last few months as I searched for a new parrot to fill the empty space left by QP Ralph's passing. Not many parrots of any kind available close enough to where I live, either for adoption or for sale, and I ran across a few scam artists along the way. I'm not sure who chose whom, but when the little GCC was brought out to meet me, he climbed right up my arm and onto my shoulder like he was staking a claim. Once at home, there was no hesitation about exploring his new cage and he already seems to be right at home here. We're still working on choosing a permanent name, so it's "Little Parrot" temporarily. And here is Little Parrot:

LOL! I love greenies! So spunky and full of birdy chaos! I totally hear you about hunting for breeders and rescues and finding scammers on the way. I went hunting for a Timneh grey and was terrified of being scammed. I ended up with a Congo Grey - my first, but not my first parrot - that I had to have shipped from out of province. YEEEEEEK!

I vote for calling Little Parrot 'Lippy'. Green cheeks can be lippy, in their ability to talk, and it's short for Little Parrot!
