Rest in Peace Rio
Might go have a look at this guy for possible adoption..... he looks like he could use some extra love! The cage in the picture is his smaller one, I'm waiting for a picture of his larger cage. What do you all think? My heart just goes out to him.

Just realized I didn't attach the pic lol.... give me just a minute....

Ok... here we go, for some reason my computer doesn't like to let me copy pictures out of my main email very easily....

He needs love! Main point, do you need another bird? Is it right for you & hubby? Do you have room? You're right, he could really use someone kind, someone like you.

Poor little guy :(. It would be great for him to find a good home.

However, keep in mind that he is most likely NOT going to get along with your Conure. I do own both and that is ok, I just let them out at different times or keep and extra keen eye out for where they are from each other. Conures think they are big like Macaws but the Grey's beak is much bigger than theirs! LOL

Do I need another bird? well.... does anybody really NEED an extra bird? lol. Would I love to give him a home? Definately. We own our own home, so I can make more room in the living room. If I have to kick out a chair into another room, so be it. The hubby drug his feet when I first wanted Rio, but then fell in love very quickly, and I had never seen him cry so much over a pet in my life when Rio passed. He was actually the one to tell me to get River.

After time in separate rooms for a good long while, I would definately be very cautious with them together. River does seem to think he's a big tough guy, so I would see how they behave around each other, and have separate out times if that's what would be best. It's definately something for me to give a lot of tought to, I'm torn between having always wanted a grey, and this one really looks like he needs a home, and then thinking about how it would change things to have two birds.

He does need love!! But, like Echo said, they wont get along. SB said that her african grey and green cheek fight.

He would be lucky to have you :)

This bird would be lucky to have you!!!!! Go get him!!! :)

The more I think about it, and look at the picture, and read up on what to do about feather plucking, and changing his diet, the more I want to go get him! Hubby is taking some convincing that of course we need two birds to go along witht the two dogs and two cats. I am continuing to email the current owner, and if they agree to me seeing/possibly adoping the bird, I'm reallllly considering doing it. Just gotta figure out a day hubby and I both have off (its 4 or 5 hours each way), and ask my father in law if we can borrow his truck. Two cages plus a bird and two humans are never gonna fit in my honda civic lol. His truck has an extended cab, so the bird would of course be safe inside with us.

Well.... I hope it works out, and by that I mean I hope you get that bird!!!!

go get him, he couldn't be luckier! you will provide a wonderful home

Awww! I'm sure that you could help River to get along with another bird, in time. I've had lots of pets (not necessarily birds) that didn't like each other at first, but grew to be buddies.

awww i hope it does work out for you or the gray, poor thing looks so depressed and lost in that picture

awww get him! angel and mimsy hate each other so i let them out seperately, there is always a way when its meant to be xxx

He looks so sad, I hope you guys get him. I know he'd have a great home with you both. Good luck and keep us all updated!

He does not even have toys! Yes, my Cricket still attacks Rosie every chance he can get. He is just so jealous. He thinks he is an Eagle and this is all his territory. Rosie would make friends with him if he would let it happen. I just decided to live with it and hope one day they will be happy together.

I think if it feels right and you have that natural longing for him, then get him. I'm a firm believer that fate brings to us what we are supposed to take care of and you never know they could get along. Romeo's previous owners told me that they used to have a conure that would follow her around everywhere and practically lived under her wings (unfortunately he passed a few years prior to me getting her) and if they don't like each other you could always keep them separated. Its not the end of the world to have two birds in one house that don't get along. Hes in need of a good home, if you feel a connection to him don't deny it. Keep us posted, hes super cute.

I am in tears! Although the owner is not asking a rehoming fee for himself, I have just been told that he is requesting a donation of $500 be made to the church of the original owner (he inherited Gilbert when his friend passed away). As much as I would love to donate money to the Church, I just absolutely don't have $500. We just had surgery done on both of our dogs, and had to take a loan out for that. The money it would cost in gas to go get him, along with a vet visit for him, and items he would need would be all the extra money I could afford. I emailed him explaing that while I could give SOMETHING to the Church, $500 is just too much. I had hoped to go get him in the next couple days, as his family is leaving for vacation this weekend, and won't be back until labor day. Poor Gilbert :( He's plucked, on a poor diet, and I really want to help him. I respect the idea of giving money to the Church, but in the first email when I asked what the rehoming fee was, and he said there wasn't one, I wish he would have mentioned the donation to the Church idea. I feel I have grown attached to a bird I have never met.

Oh I only do HATE when money is the important part to rescue an animal!!! Especially when you involve a church as an excuse! Sure they tell people that there's no rehoming fee then slam them with church money crap! Is he really gonna give it all to the church? I have my doubts!

They should be paying YOU to care for that poor soul! Well here is maybe a solution : if 50 of us donate YOU $10 then you can get the bird! I will gladly donate to rescue him! A lot of people belong to this forum and what's $10 to a lot of us. Goes to a good cause!

Could start a thread with $10 donation for the Grey with his picture included. He needs our help. Am I alone in thinking this? I really hope not Rio Mom.

With Paypal it could be quick and you could get him by the week end! :)

What do you all think??
