Hey everyone! It’s been a while so I figured I’d give an update on how Mischief is doing and also post some pictures! I know my dad made an addition to the last post talking about things, but I’ll reiterate it here, as well.

Mischief is about 5 months old! We’ve seen a definite shift in how she interacts with the world. She’s much more lively and curious. She’s also totally weaned off of her baby formula. It was a clean, natural progression—but she still makes the ā€˜feed me’ sound if we give her something like peanut butter, which is cute (the PB is a reward for her training sessions). She’s very open to new food—she eats chop, pellets, and occasional seed mix. She doesn’t really like treats but the PB does work for her target training.

In terms of bonding, it’s going very well. She preens all of our hair. She also likes to pick scabs, which I’m sure she considers helpful, even if we would prefer her not to, haha. I think I mentioned this before, but she mimics a slow scratching motion near or on her face when she wants us to pet her, like she’s showing us what to do. It’s really cool to see. She still loves live music. I started playing guitar and singing to her in addition to the piano, and when I play she bobs her head and ā€˜sings’ along (by chirping). She flew onto my shoulder when I was playing once, which was cute. She also screams if I leave after playing, so I think that confirms that she enjoys it and doesn’t want me to leave?

She vocalizes a lot. Most of it is unintelligible ā€˜muttering’ that sounds like words but isn’t quite, however she does say ā€˜mwah!’ She also chirps a lot, which is something I didn’t experience with Grim; I’ve read Galahs chirp more than other cockatoos.

She really likes to wander around on the floor. We noticed she doesn’t really use her feet to hold her food and eat; my dad read that it’s because Galahs are more of a ground dwelling bird compared to other cockatoos and so are used to using their beaks to forage, but we aren’t too sure about that. We hope that there isn’t something else going on, like some muscle condition (the vet mentioned something about that when I brought up her lack of using her feet, but he wasn’t concerned for now). Her ground-dwelling aside, I will say that she’s very apt at flying. She can land on the ground, circle the house, and even sort of ā€˜hover’ in one place when she’s deciding where to go.

Overall, Mischief is doing very well. She’s very social and doesn’t mind meeting new people, and she doesn’t seem to be scared of new objects. She likes to be pet and is quite chatty. She doesn’t seem to have a favorite amongst any of us, she’s pretty consistently social and affectionate with everyone in the house.

I hope all of you are doing well!! Thank you for sticking with us on this journey :)
(I’ve attached some pictures of Mischief here as well!!)

What birds of prey are in your general area? I;d be worried about them, with Mischief flying free around outside.

She's beautiful and it sounds like y'all are doing great.

I'm very happy for both of you.

Thanks for the pics and update.
