Hey everyone! Itās been a while so I figured Iād give an update on how Mischief is doing and also post some pictures! I know my dad made an addition to the last post talking about things, but Iāll reiterate it here, as well.
Mischief is about 5 months old! Weāve seen a definite shift in how she interacts with the world. Sheās much more lively and curious. Sheās also totally weaned off of her baby formula. It was a clean, natural progressionābut she still makes the āfeed meā sound if we give her something like peanut butter, which is cute (the PB is a reward for her training sessions). Sheās very open to new foodāshe eats chop, pellets, and occasional seed mix. She doesnāt really like treats but the PB does work for her target training.
In terms of bonding, itās going very well. She preens all of our hair. She also likes to pick scabs, which Iām sure she considers helpful, even if we would prefer her not to, haha. I think I mentioned this before, but she mimics a slow scratching motion near or on her face when she wants us to pet her, like sheās showing us what to do. Itās really cool to see. She still loves live music. I started playing guitar and singing to her in addition to the piano, and when I play she bobs her head and āsingsā along (by chirping). She flew onto my shoulder when I was playing once, which was cute. She also screams if I leave after playing, so I think that confirms that she enjoys it and doesnāt want me to leave?
She vocalizes a lot. Most of it is unintelligible āmutteringā that sounds like words but isnāt quite, however she does say āmwah!ā She also chirps a lot, which is something I didnāt experience with Grim; Iāve read Galahs chirp more than other cockatoos.
She really likes to wander around on the floor. We noticed she doesnāt really use her feet to hold her food and eat; my dad read that itās because Galahs are more of a ground dwelling bird compared to other cockatoos and so are used to using their beaks to forage, but we arenāt too sure about that. We hope that there isnāt something else going on, like some muscle condition (the vet mentioned something about that when I brought up her lack of using her feet, but he wasnāt concerned for now). Her ground-dwelling aside, I will say that sheās very apt at flying. She can land on the ground, circle the house, and even sort of āhoverā in one place when sheās deciding where to go.
Overall, Mischief is doing very well. Sheās very social and doesnāt mind meeting new people, and she doesnāt seem to be scared of new objects. She likes to be pet and is quite chatty. She doesnāt seem to have a favorite amongst any of us, sheās pretty consistently social and affectionate with everyone in the house.
I hope all of you are doing well!! Thank you for sticking with us on this journey
